the state of being controlled by chance rather than design.
Use in a sentence: It was by fortuity that this horrible nightmare came to pass, and by fortuity that it shall cease to be.
(The "nightmare" being April Fools Day... I'm so glad it's over... for me. Sorry for all the people who still have to lie to their friends on the west coast... and in the mountains... and anywhere it's not midnight yet)
