¿Should I buy a new computer now? or ¿wait for the current 1 to fail? · 12:35am Feb 16th, 2017

I have a 2007 24-Inch iMac with 3GB of RAM and 750 GB Hard Drive. The HD is starting to lockup. I must wait for it to cool-off. I have a question:

¿Should I replace the computer immediately? or ¿wait as long as possible in hopes of getting another year or 2 before the HD will finally fail?

I thought about replacing the failing HD, but given its age, I might end up with a new HD in a computer whose power-supply, lamp, Ram or something else will have failed. I am not afraid of data-loss because I have an external BackUpDrive and InterNetBackUp, so the HD failing will be an inconvenience, If I should try to really get my moneys' worth and wait for the HD to fail.

¡Thanks!

As long as the current computer isn't too inconvenient to use, I'd say stick to this one and wait for it to finally fail.

I shall take that under advisement. Too inconvenient is a relative term:

When the HD seizes and I must hard shutdown my computer, thus loosing unsaved work, and wait an hour for the HD to cool, ¿is that too inconvenient?

¡Talk about the long tail of the distribution! After 25 years, 99% of computers die.

Your computer deserves a reward for not dying.

It is amazing that the printwheel still works at all, even if it messes up.
