A minor, if not, silly question · 1:53am Feb 12th, 2017

At the risk of sounding like the ultimate definition of a newbie, I have but one question: I've noticed that there have been a lot of different groups on this site. Some of which are related to various themes of fanfiction while others are dedicated to some narrators / voice actors within the FiM fandom.

With other groups dedicated to sharing their love for both FiM and various other media franchises.

With all of that being said, I ask this:

How does one go about starting up a group on this site? I've been curious about it ever since I started joining in some of them.

If there's anyone here who could provide an answer or some sort of how-to guide, I'd be forever grateful.

When you click on your name on your menu bar at the top of the page, you'll see a pull-down menu. One of the things says "Groups." Click on it and you'll see an option to create a group right at the top of that page, as well as the option to search for groups by keyword.

Hope that helps!

4425416 I never knew that. I never knew that you could create a group just by doing what you just said, here. I thought it was something that the higher-ranked members in charge of this site would award after you had some kind of milestone like the number of fanfiction that you've posted on this site.

Still, I liked what you did, here. Thank you.

How did you find out about this, if I may ask?

4437967 I saw the post on your page when I was coming over to your page after you added a bunch of my stories to your bookshelf.

4438531 Have you ever started a group on this site, before?

4441267 Nope! No real need to.

4441270 If I may ask, what was it about MLP: FiM (and how did you get into it)?

What are your favorite series of cartoons (FiM, aside) and why?

4441310 Pretty sure I answered the first question.

Other cartoons I like? Well, for modern/recent ones:
-Steven Universe
-Star vs the Forces of Evil
-Young Justice (seriously underrated and I can't wait for Season 3)
-Legend of Korra

Classic/older ones:
-Looney Tunes shorts
-Danger Mouse
-Animaniacs
-Batman: TAS through Justice League (Bruce Timm-verse)

There are a bunch more, but that's a pretty good list.

4441315 Sorry about that 1st question. I tend to repeat myself, sometimes.

Another silly question: Though, I've been with FiM since its 1st episode debut in 2010, I've come in way late when it comes to creating FiM-related content. At present, I'm writing some scripts for cartoon shorts set in the show's universe, in addition to creating a fanfic of my own.

I've had many give me advice when it comes to writing works. But, what would you say to someone when it comes to them writing fanfics or otherwise, for the first time?

4441336 All I can say is:
1. Just tell an interesting story.
2. Be true to the characters/setting.
3. Don't be afraid to seek help and accept criticism.

Other than that, just keep writing.

4442983 Good to know. I must ask, though: Was it difficult for you when you first started writing fanfics of your own?

4451476 Hmm...

Was it hard to start? No.
The keeping it up and learning to evolve as a writer... that was the tough part.
The starting is as easy as coming up with an idea and putting it down.

4452047 how did you come across a site like FiMFiction.net and MLP: FiM fanfiction, in general?

4476116 I was aware of it from Equestria Daily. One day I saw them advertising the Everfree Northwest writing contest back in 2015. I'd been toying with doing pony fics, so I figured this was a good opportunity to try.

4476556 For me, it was 2 or 3 years ago when I first came across the fanfics of certain people within this very fandom. People like Magpiepony and Obabscribbler (the latter moreso than the former), for instance.

In fact, it was partly because of Scribbler that I had stumbled across this site, by accident. My only regret was that I wished I had joined the instead of waiting until near the end of last year to do so.

Had you written fanfiction (of any kind), beforehand?

Had you written fanfiction (of any kind), beforehand?

Ohhh quite a bit. I stopped for a good long while before returning to it, though.

4477669 What made you stop? Lack of interest or busy with duties pertaining to real life?
