Just sharing some more terms that will be featured in my final fantasy crossover. Let's start shall we?
The Rending: This catastrophe occurred over 1000 years ago. It was a time where Equestria and the world was torn asunder by the arrival of the Chaos Mist. Many cities and civilizations were destroyed and spawned many new species across the globe. Additionally, the Princess's Celestia and Luna both disappeared. Many are still unaware of what caused The Rending, but its wake has left a great scar across the world.
Chaos Mist: The main source of strife within the world. A strange substance that appeared during The Rending. It coats most of the world, choking life out of it like miasma. Though scholars are unsure, most consider the arrival of many monster species and this to be connected, as many new species sprang up after the arrival of the mist. Travel within the mist is ill advised as extended exposure can cause sickness or madness, or in some cases amnesia. Though dangerous, many towns and cities keep it at bay with crystal generators.
Gil: The new world currency, after the establishment of the Paradise Empire, all bits were changed in name to gil.
Paradise City: The main capital of the Paradise Empire. Before The Rending, it was known as Ponyville, yet after the catastrophe, it was rebuilt into a sprawling metropolis. It is the grandest city in all of Equestria holding many sights and sounds to take in.
Paradise Empire: The central form of government in Equestria. After the fall of Canterlot and the Crystal Empire, Twilight Sparkle was the only living princess remaining. So she and her descendants reorganized Equestria using Ponyville as a base. Though small at first, by the present it has become a vast military power. Though some say in present days, the Empire has drifted far from what Twilight Sparkle envisioned.
Evil Forest: Formally known as Everfree Forest. After the rending, it was said that the Elements of Harmony vanished from the forest leaving the Plunderseeds to run amok. However strangely the forest did not go beyond its boundaries. Some say the Chaos Mist played a factor in it. The forest is ripe with the mist as dangerous creatures roam inside. Due to this, the forest was renamed by locals.
Cursed Kingdom: The ruins of Canterlot. During the Rending, a large influx of Chaos Mist invaded. In fact, the mist seems to collate at this point, growing stronger year by year. By the present, Canterlot is a ghost town filled to the brim with Chaos Mist. Many have traveled there but none have returned. Though many are unsure why the mist seems to be focusing at this point, but legends state that the Lord of Chaos himself, Discord was present during the Rending, staying behind for some purpose.
Chocobos: A new form of bird that has appeared in Equestria. It is uncertain whether it was simply an unknown species that was discovered and bred, or some kind of mutation from the Chaos Mist. However, these birds have become the main form of transport within the world. Identified by their distinctive "Wark" cry, they are bred in ranches and used for a variety of purposes. Why some places are powered by chocobos.
Flutter Field Ranch: One of the most prominent chocobo ranches in the world. Many chocobos are bred and sold here, and the owners seem to have a sixth sense when dealing with the birds. However, it has been said that a monster has been plaguing the ranch as of late, feasting on the chocobos as it sees fit.
Northern Ruins: The ruins of the Crystal Empire. During The Rending, the Crystal Heart was destroyed allowing the vast cold and snow to overtake the city. Though many fled, the fate of the royal family lays unknown. Some say that Shining Armor and Cadance's descendants are still alive today, while others say they died off during the disaster. All that is known is that today the once great empire is now ruins where monsters and beasts have taken root.
Moogles: Another new species that sprang up around the time of the Rending. It is unknown if these creatures can be considered monster of animals, but they appear to be friendly. Some say they don't even exist due to their obscurity, but it known that they often punctuate the word "Kupo" into their words.
Pinkie Land: Even in these Chaos Mist times, a bit of light springs eternal. This all started with dream, held by none other than the element of laughter herself, Pinkie Pie. However, Pinkie Pie died before her dreamed could be realized. Luckily her descendants fulfilled it, and today they have the biggest theme part in Equestria. Rides, games, even chocobo races, all can be found here. Even a grand hotel. It is said that this place rivals even the great Las Pegasus.
Espers: Mysterious beings of great power. Though it is said that their presence became well known during the Rending, it is stated and found in old records that they have existed long before that, with some even being worshiped for their power. There are many kinds and they lay scattered across the world in stones. It said some espers can form a pact with creatures allowing them to be summoned for aid.
Well, here it is all for now. Note, some names may changed over the course of time, and when I might start writing it. But I hope this gains your interest.

I like the mist idea it was an interesting part of FF9 and easily explained monsters and other animals appearing or being violent
