[Spoilers] Kamek's Best Moments in Pokemon Moon · 1:12am Dec 2nd, 2016

These moments are in no particular order of when they happened, they're just a collection of things I encountered on my travels through the Alola region. Take note that there are some heavy spoilers within this blog, so be warned!

Perfect Rowlet on the First Try

This one may be the hardest to believe of the moments, but when beginning my adventure I started out with a perfect nature and IV Rowlet without soft-resetting.

I was so surprised when I found out that on my very first try I got an Adamant nature Rowlet, but that was nowhere close to how surprised I was when I found out it was "Somewhat Vain". This does means its highest IV is special defense, but it also means there's the high possibility of that IV being 31, with 31 being the max IV, which means high stats all around the board. I haven't officially confirmed this, but seeing how ludicrously high Decidueye's ATK stat was before Lv.50 I can only assume that I got a good one.

Challengers beware of the borb!

The Stupid Battle with Tapu Fini

Let me set the stage for this one.

I had fun catching Tapu Koko. I had a BLAST catching Tapu Lele. Tapu Bulu was awkward but still enjoyable. And then Tapu Fini happened who has a totally different moveset than the other guardians. Unlike the other guardians, she has several things about her that make her a pain-in-the-ass to capture. For starters, one of her moves is Aqua Ring which heals her every time. Second of all, I have no idea why but it feels like her catch rate is LOWER than the other Tapus. It's probably just me, but whatever.

Well, okay Kamek; just Taunt her and Paralyze her and get it over and done with, right? Wrong. Her ability activates Misty Terrain which negates inflicting status moves for five whole turns, meaning you have to pray to GOD that she doesn't use Aqua Ring in those five turns and screws you over big time.

But I learned from my mistakes. I gave Taunt and Thunder Wave to my Mimikyu "Mimmy" and hoped her Disguise ability would help her last against Tapu Fini's assault. I also brought along my Lunala "Nebby" with Shadow Ball to pierce, albeit slowly and cautiously, her special defense and get her down to a decent HP percentage to catch her. Finally I gave False Swipe to my Decidueye "Gizmo" to halt that little Aqua Ring of hers in case things got dicey. And thus, for the fifth time after four miserably failed attempts of throwing Ultra Ball after Ultra Ball, I began the battle with Tapu Fini. Two Shadow Balls in and no Aqua Ring, but I had to wait three more turns to allow Misty Terrain to piss off. So for shits and giggles I decided to throw my first Ultra Ball to see what would happen.

1... 2... 3... click.

For about five minutes I sat there with my palm on my face contemplating where I went wrong in my life. All that preparation for absolutely nothing. Nonetheless, Tapu Fini, now named Fionna, is a great Pokemon and I can't stay mad at her for long, but that battle will linger in my mind forever.

Type: Null and the Tamato Berries

I'm someone who enjoys filling out the Pokedex and seeing what creepy shit GameFreak decided to put in their totally E-rated game. So when I found out that the Type: Null you get from Gladion evolves into Silvally by friendship with a base happiness of absolute 0, I saw a challenge ahead of me and I took it.

Though seeing as how you get Type: Null, mine named Gladiator, at Lv.40 during the post-game, there isn't too much you can do in terms of leveling it up. I tried massaging him and nothing happened, I tried that TM trick I discovered and nothing happened, and I simply didn't have enough money to just buy proteins and EV items to feed to him and boost his happiness.

Gladiator has a Relaxed nature, meaning its defensive and bulky but slow as all hell. This part is important because while exploring the Poni wilds I came across a certain berry known as the Tamato berry. I quickly learned that Tamato berries increase happiness but lower the base speed stat, so I held off on them for a little while. I had three, so I eventually fed one to Gladiator just to see what would happen. I was aware of the consequences and took note that his speed was already really low and I wasn't sure if it could go any lower.

Oh how right I was.

When I saw my game tell me that Gladiator's base speed couldn't go any lower, I literally had nothing to lose. I planted my remaining Tamato berries and later fed the shit out of Type: Null to raise its happiness without any repercussions. It wasn't long before I had that beautiful Silvally I so desperately wanted.

Now I just need to raise its EVs a bit more...

When I found out that this game means BUSINESS

This is a scene I'm sad not too many people know about, because it sure as hell IS sad.

After completing the Grand Trial of Melemele Island, you can head off to the Hau'oli Cemetery to do some last-minute Misdreavus catching if you need it. There you can find a woman and her Machamp facing a grave and talking about someone in their lives who died in the past. After she finally notices you, she tells you about how that grave is where her husband rests in peaces and begins the story of how it all came to be.

Her husband got into a car crash and died on the spot. Machamp was with the man at the time and the latter managed to get the former back into its Poke Ball before the crash happened, saving its life. This caused Machamp to go into a state of rage and disliked the thought of being put into a Poke Ball ever again, even going so far as to throwing away its own Poke Ball as to never be returned again. The woman then goes into HORRIFIC detail of how she became angry with the young man that caused the crash in the first place. She let go of her anger once she realized the young man had a wife and they too had been shaken by the events.

I sat there for a good minute just in utter horror of what I was reading. For an E-rated game, that was pretty fucking dark.

Mareanie/Toxapex the Beast

Have I ever mentioned how much I LOVE Poison-type Pokemon?'

In Gen 7 we got two of the coolest Poison-types ever, those being Salazzle and Toxapex. Salazzle is pretty cool in that it can poison any opponent, including Steel and other Poison-types, but Toxapex takes the cake simply because of how OP you can make it if you really train it. It already has extremely high defenses (152 DEF, 142 SP.D), but where it really shines is its ability and its signature move. Its ability, Merciless, makes all attacks on a poisoned foe critical hits. Its signature move, Baneful Bunker, protects Toxapex and poisons any foe that makes contact with it during its defending turn.

My Toxapex, Axel, was my main Pokemon throughout my adventure. He won battle after battle because he could endure any hit thrown at him and hit right back like a fucking tank. Best of all, he like all Toxapex has access to Recover, which means the VGC is officially broken. I beat Guzma with him, I beat Lusamine with him, I beat Hau and Gladion with him, and I even beat Kukui with him to cap off my adventure. I love him SO damn much!

And canonically eats my least-favorite Pokemon, Corsola. Yay!

Kamek sees Shiinotic for the First Time

This is pretty much word-for-word my reaction to Shiinotic:

"Ah! AH! What is that?! Ah, get it away! Oh god, that is HORRIFYING! Good sweet mother of Christ, who came up with this?! Morelull was pretty cute, but then it evolves into this? What the fuck?! AH, DON'T ZOOM IN ON ITS FACE, CAMERA!!!"

I have stated in the past that I don't care what a Pokemon looks like so long as it has good stats. This is why I love Pokemon like Vanilluxe and Chandelure. But good god, did they really have to make Shiinotic look fucking horrifying? I'm fine with dead, soulless eyes on a Pokemon. Hell, I actually find it kind of cute! Mimikyu and ironically Morelull just to name a couple. But then they gave Shiinotic that creepy-ass smile and completely ruined it. And this isn't even me being a douche, I legit cannot look at Shiinotic without quivering a bit. It's WEIRD!

And Shiinotic isn't really that good a Pokemon. It's like a piss-weak baby fusion of Whimsicott and Bellossom, both of which have a BST of 480 and WAY better abilities than Effect Spore and goddamn Illuminate. Shiinotic has the same special attack and special defense as Bellossom, and somehow every other stat is lower, even HP, culminating to a BST of 405.

Ugh.

Hapu is Gay for Lillie

Alright, so, it seems GameFreak is implying that various characters within Pokemon are gay and lesbian. Of course they can't go all out due to unfortunately stupid parents attacking them because of how not with the times they are, but its nice to see that GameFreak is making strides to stay with the times. And we get such beautiful dialogue like the picture above.

And in this context, Hapu isn't talking about how lovely Lillie's manners are, she was straight-up looking at dat Lillie, yo. When I first saw this, I burst out laughing and shedding tears of joy that GameFreak didn't want to stay in the shadow of parents who threatened to sue them over petty things in Pokemon games like gambling and pedophiles. Okay, that last one is justifiable, BUT GIVE US BACK THE GAME CORNER, DAMMIT!!

There is more gayness from Pokemon, but I'll talk about that another time.

There are more things that happened through my adventure I want to talk about, but I simply haven't the time or the memory to remember it all. But for now, this is SuperKamek saying I hope you enjoyed and have a great night!

Sounds like a good time, hopefully I'll get to make some memories of my own if I get to play it.

Huh, some of those are pretty interesting.:derpyderp1:
The TM trick actually worked for me, it's how I got my Crobat Kokoa, aka, a complete BEAST.

Also dark as that is, I have to admit I thought the venture into dark screwed up territory began with. the child abandonment thing. speaking of, you know about that thing with the house and Guzma?

Nice to see Game freak is keeping up with the times in issues like that. fun fact, there was dialouge in X and Y alluding to a trans character...but for some reason Nintendo of America cut it out.

And funnily enough, I think Tapu Fini looks like Nightmare Rarity, kinda.

But glad to hear you had fun with this one Kamek.

(Aside, did you hear? Final Fantasy 15 came out! And in spite of all the odds, it's reviewing really well!)

Man, I love these games.
My Primarina is a special beast.

Tapu-Fini was decent to me. At least I didn't have to restart the battle (I'm talking about you Tapu-Bulu:twilightangry2:)

Wow... this scene... just wow:rainbowderp:
Though this game is pretty dark in general, just look at the main villain.

My reaction to Shiinotic: "Alright... This is a thing."
My reaction to Golisopod though: "OH MY F:yay:! THIS IS WIMPOD'S EVOLUTION?! HOLY SHIT, I'M SCREWED!"

Never really noticed that with Hapu. Ironically, during the final moments I thought "If I would've chosen the girl then Lilly would be gay for me."

I'm honestly in the mood to buy Moon to play everything again

If you want raise their friendship, feed them rainbow beans. They're worth two whole hearts.

4326040
It's actually 4 hearts, and Friendship and Affection are two totally different things. There is no possible way to raise Friendship in Pokemon Amie or Pokemon Refresh.

Sorry, dude. :applejackunsure:

4325295
Oh, I'm sure you will!

4325301
The TM trick DOES work, but due to Type: Null having a base happiness of 0, I wasn't seeing the effects fast enough. So the Tamato berries really helped!

Yeah, I heard about FFXV. Good on it for getting so many good reviews! I may never get the chance to play it, but its gotta be better than the godawful FFXIII, right? And since I'm probably never going to play it, its time to spoil myself senseless. :derpytongue2:

4326892 Ah, you know what I mean.

4326897
Ahhhh, that would explain it most certainly! :derpytongue2:

I've gotta wait a few weeks myself, so I'm trying my best to avoid spoilers. Already spoiled just a bit on P5, so I won't let FF15 be ruined for me either! I hope.:derpyderp1:

Yeah, I had to restart the battle with Tapu Fini five times before the scene mentioned above. Everyone else got in their balls like good little Island Guardian Pokemon. :rainbowkiss:

FUCK YEAH, GOLISOPOD!! Couldn't use it during my main adventure due to me not being able to find it, but now I have the perfect Adamant nature Golisopod for my competitive team. :pinkiehappy:
