I had an offbeat idea a while ago, and I managed to bounce it off one Solid 6Gear. (The 6 is silent, you see.) I posed the question of what mammals the Mane 6 might become if they took a transformative trip to the world of Zootopia.
Solid Gear 21:56
Applejack has to stay a horse...but will end up a Clydesdale. :PPrawo 21:57
And if I again specify that *Twilight* would be the only horse?Solid Gear 21:58
Nope, Sparkle wouldn't be a horse in Zootopia. XDPrawo 21:58
I admit, Applejack crossed my mind too.Solid Gear 21:58
she's got too much of a 'hero status' to her to specifically stay a horse.
Solid Gear 21:59
AJ on the other hand...is the butt of all 'secondary Pony' jokes and is often joked about as a 'Background Pony'.Prawo 22:00
But it's *because* of that hero status that Twilight, more than the others, represents Equestria.
...As a horse.Solid Gear 22:01
Technically she would be exactly a 'Pony'.Prawo 22:01
Sure, go with that.Solid Gear 22:01
nothing would change, aside of her suddenly having no horn and no wings. she just walks through, all that's lost is her wings and horn
...and maybe she can now stand on two hooves and have hands, sure.
(Editor's note: I later found that Zootopian horses and related mammals don't have fingers.)
Solid Gear 22:02
she still looks very much like she always did, tho. :P
just for the added 'wtf' factor.
Solid Gear 22:03
all the others get elaborate changes to reflect themselves...Sparkle doesn't.Prawo 22:04
Yeah. Purple with purple eyes and tritone purple hair. Only question is whether she'd retain her cutie mark.Solid Gear 22:04
Yes.Prawo 22:04
Oh, and what the other six become.Solid Gear 22:05
Well, Aj being next as a Clydesdale anthro is appropriate...I sorta see her stylized like Mudsdale from Pokemon Sun and Moon.Prawo 22:05
.......Solid Gear 22:05
Not to mention she'd have a super-buff body and some slight curves for the more 'girly' aspect she has.
Solid Gear 22:06
Rarity would have to become a Sheep or something else that has wool/fur used for clothing and such.
Solid Gear 22:07
Pinkie Pie is definitely going to be a Kangaroo, or even just generally something that hops around a lot.
.....Pinkie bunneh. XD
Solid Gear 22:08
Rainbow Dash would most likely be a Hawk, or some kind of Avian...failing that (given it would have to be mammalian), an appropriate weather-sensing mammal like an Otter or Seal would work.
Solid Gear 22:09
Fluttershy has to be either a cow anthro (due to her peaceful but occasionally rage-capable nature), or maybe a Buffalo.
Solid Gear 22:10
as for Spike....he could probably pass as a lizard in Zootopia...but to keep with the more mammalian themes going, Naked Mole Rat is more likely. :PPrawo 22:13
On a tangent, any idea why Japanese artists draw Rarity semi-often as a cow?Solid Gear 22:15
Its to go with the joke of her sounding like she 'moos' in a few episodes...plus the 'duckface' she uses is seen on a lot of Japanese Cows in animated shows.Prawo 22:16
That sounds like that would explain it.... Moos?Solid Gear 22:20
voice actors are changed, so I imagine a few things would sound drastically different.
And as you can see, it got late. I would have liked to offer my own ideas, but I can't even remember if I had such at the time. In any case, here my ideas are now.
For Pinkie, I'm leaning more toward the kangaroo option. She's already familiar with using her tail as a limb, and that pocket would come in useful too.
...I still have no good answer for Applejack. I mean, I considered a cow, but that's just Arizona. (From "Them's Fightin' Herds," comes out... lessee, April 2017.) And pig comes with too much baggage for me to consider.
I nearly stated outright I was thinking about Rarity as a cow. Well, maybe, maybe not? I mean, dressmaker Element of Generosity is so much more cohesive (if in a goofy way) when she's also providing the material from her body.
Fluttershy would be a bat. Any bat. Fructivore or insectivore.
Rainbow as a "weather-sensing mammal"? Please. Her talent is in speed, not weather. All Pegasi are a little capable of manipulating weather. The likely reason she's Ponyville's weather manager (wait, is she still? After becoming an official Wonderbolt? I mean, sure, bearing an EoH is a big responsibility, but she only had to actually do something what, four times? And usually during a crisis, when keeping the weather running was made either impossible or a lower priority). Sorry, wandered there.
The likely reason she's been Ponyville's weather manager is she has gotten her work done. (Well, also been able to direct and delegate, but that's not necessarily how you get promoted.) And more evidently, a big part of getting her work done is doing it fast. So my thoughts went to mammals notable for their speed--namely, the cheetah, the star-nosed mole (just to be crazy), or the sloth (just to drive her crazy).
Anyway, I don't have anything particular to cap this post off, so I'll make a tangent. In our conversation, I also asked Solid about Stephen Universe's universe, but we didn't really get to that. By the same principle, what gems would the Mane 6 become? (I'm thinking Spike would unfairly be human, and I have 2 1/2 solid answers for the ponies.)
