[Metacritic Monday] Mighty No.9 · 7:47pm Jul 5th, 2016

Well, if we're bringing the show back, might as well make an episode on Tuesday...

Hello everyone! My name is SuperKamek and welcome back to another episode of "Metacritic Monday", where I bitch and complain about people who bitch and complain. It's been a while since I ripped apart a bad game on this show, since the main humor of the show revolves around people who so stupid as not to understand why a game is good. However, I think it can still work vice-versa where people praise the hell out of bad games.

Please, please, PLEASE take note that I will not be ripping apart reviews that are actually legit. If someone dislikes a game for a reason, I'm all okay with that. What I'm NOT okay with is false information, like those stupid "0/10" reviews you find sometimes. Also take note that this is for entertainment and comedy purposes only, so I will be exaggerating a few points I make. So, without further ado, let's delve into Metacritic Monday!

Mighty No.9 is a pathetic excuse for a video game. Like, seriously. And this isn't even delving into the kickstarter controversy and the whole "Anime fan on prom night" bullshit. It runs like shit, the story is god-awful, the characters are bland, the voice acting is beyond atrocious, the music is mediocre as fuck, and it ingeniously makes you THINK you're playing a Mega Man game by having you jump, shoot and run, when in reality it is a mere shell of what Mega Man used to be.

And some people still support this?! Well, whatever! I'm here to put this nonsense to rest once and for all! So grab your power-ups and your crying anime fan on prom night, because we are gonna be delving into one of THE worst releases of 2016.

God save us all.

These quotes come from the users Expertspecter and ELEETE on the Wii U and PS4 respectively.

Honestly, there is way to much hate for this game going around. As soon as I started playing, it rekindled that mega man spirit in me. I don't know what reviewers like Promotheus have done to their console, probably covering all the vent ports and wondering why the games run like crap. It has run smoothly for me. I enjoy the frantic mix of action and dashing. The only flaw I saw was not including a charge shot of some kind. Which is fine. It rates well for a 20 dollar game, and few games have been able to reach the number of consoles this game has. It is much better than some of the other 15 or 20 buck releases on the wii and other consoles.

I think the low ratings are undeserved. "Critics" are bashing a game with a relatively low budget that came from an indie studio. As someone who grew up on Mega Man as a kid this game is very nostalgic and a blast to play. I guess hating on it is what the "cool" thing to do. If you were expecting a blockbuster game you weren't gonna get it with this genre/budget. I personally have enjoyed it.

I can already tell I'll have some fun with these two.

Honestly, there is way to much hate for this game going around.

Gee, I couldn't imagine why.

As soon as I started playing, it rekindled that mega man spirit in me.

Is rekindled really a good word for this particular sentence. I personally would have used the word...

...doused.

I don't know what reviewers like Promotheus have done to their console

FUCKING NOTHING!!

The game just runs like shit on its own!

probably covering all the vent ports and wondering why the games run like crap.

Look, I don't know who or what Prometheus is (probably a reviewing company I've never heard of), but I immediately have extreme respect for them because they dared go against people like you.

Why the hell would ANYONE do that, moron?!

It has run smoothly for me.

I enjoy the frantic mix of action and dashing.

While you struggle to control Mighty No.9 (I don't know nor do I have the willpower to care what the main character's name is) as he jumps into instant death pits before you can even say...

"Well shit..."

The only flaw I saw was not including a charge shot of some kind.

Probably because, in an effort to glorify the game and their raging boners for money, the developers forgot how to Mega Man.

Which is fine.

It rates well for a 20 dollar game,

and few games have been able to reach the number of consoles this game has.

All of which end in complete disaster for the game!

It is much better than some of the other 15 or 20 buck releases on the wii and other consoles.

I can name five right off the top of my head.

- Mass Effect 3
- Need For Speed Most Wanted U
- Tekken Tag Tournament 2
- Assassin's Creed III
- Batman : Arkham City

Sure, these games were all on other consoles before. And sure, they were all more expensive in the past. But that was then and this is now. Now these games can be found for Wii U for under 20 dollars, and all of them are incredible games which all of you reading at home should go out and buy right now.

Mighty No.9 is nowhere CLOSE to being as good as some of these other games. So fuck you.

And the worst part is that we're not even done here...

I think the low ratings are undeserved.

Clearly this is a man who has never played the game.

"Critics"

are bashing a game with a relatively low budget

Of four million dollars...

that came from an indie studio.

Of over 100 employees.

Are you high?

As someone who grew up on Mega Man as a kid

Oh my god! You grew up on Mega Man since you were that young? Dude, I didn't know...

I mean, I know it's a hard drug to get off of, but dude if I knew that you were taking it I would have helped you out in an instant. C'mon, let's get you to a doctor and he'll try and help you out with your addiction.

this game is very nostalgic and a blast to play.

Wait, where have I heard this before...?

I guess hating on it is what the "cool" thing to do.

I'll just put this video here.

No real reason why...

If you were expecting a blockbuster game

I LOATHE people who use this as an excuse to make the game seem better than it is.

"If you were expecting a fucking movie of a game like The Last of Us or Heavy Rain, well gee-golly-gosh-dang-it! Tough!"

It's like they blame the people who expected more out of this game, and rightfully so! It was gonna be the spiritual successor to Mega Man, one of the most beloved franchises of all time! Of COURSE we'd expect more from the fucking game! We expected it to go above and beyond after years and years of waiting for a new Mega Man game, not to mentions years and years of waiting for THIS goddamn piece of crap.

So no, we weren't expecting a "blockbuster" movie thing from this game. We were expecting a Mega Man spiritual successor, and we didn't get it here. I hope that someday someone tries again.

I still have hope for a Mega Man successor.

you weren't gonna get it with this genre/budget.

Dust: An Elysian Tail.

There! That game is a perfect example of a game in the same genre with a lower budget that was FUCKING AMAZING!! Not to mention everything was done by one guy! ONE FRICKIN' GUY!! Okay, no, the game wasn't perfect, but holy shit it is leagues better than Mighty No.9 in both design, gameplay, and story. That last one especially!

Don't you DARE ever say that a "blockbuster" movie game could never happen with a 2D platformer, because it has been done in the past before, not to mention on a lower budget!

I personally have enjoyed it.

Yes, you HAVE enjoyed it. Because hopefully we'll never hear from this game ever again.

And that concludes today's Metacritic Monday! Did you enjoy the show? If so, leave a comment down below! Also, what are your thoughts on Mighty No.9? Like it? Hate it? Really your choice, I won't blame you if you like it. Only I will and you should feel bad if you like this wretched eldritch abomination from hell that was made for the sole purpose of cashing in on the Mega Man franchise!!

Ugh... Sorry guys, still a little salty from that episode. Well, at least we'll never have to see Mighty No.9 ever agai-

And the saddest thing? The show looks better than the game.

I'm confused, what is this anime fan on prom night thing?

Just watched the Honest Trailer and now this just fit perfectly
I haven't played Mighty no9 (or Megaman actually [I know I miss out on something]), but maybe I'll buy a secondhand version when the price dropped below 5€ (Probably next week)

Even Vegeta agrees that this game sucks.

Fitting, no?

Well to be fair to Comcept, the comparison to Dust isn't really that fair. Dust had a smaller budget yes, but more of that budget went to making the game, Inafune pretty much said only 60% of the 4 mil went to the game. Also, only one person means less opportunities to screw up, less arguing about direction, etc, etc. Still, the fact remains Comcept had a full time studio of payed staff, and with a team that size, this really had no excuse to be as crap as it was.:ajbemused:

Again I'll give them leeway on the "Anime fan on prom night thing" That was Deep Silver's idea, even the devs were horrified when they saw that trailer. Deep Silver really hasn't been the same since Ride to Hell Retribution, poor folks. I'll also give credit to Inafune that he owned up to his mistakes admitting that each of MN9's failings was 'his own fault.' so I'll give him respect for that.

...HOWEVER. None of that leeway excuses what a mess this was. Constant delays, shoved in features no one wanted, a buggy game at launch with all the classic pitfalls of old Megaman design (death spikes, etc, etc.) while adding nothing new or substantial to the table. And don't even get me started on the Red Ash debacle.

I sincerely hope Bloodstained and Yooka Laylee don't get to much criticism because of MN9's blunder. Their already facing a bit of heat and doubt thanks to Comcepts screw up. And at the end of the day, I sincerely hope Inafune and Comcept will be able to fix there issues and one day produce a genuinely good game. But I hope they don't have the gall to ever use Kickstarter again. I hope at the very least, Inafune realizes he burned that bridge beyond repair.

And as for these reviews? This is major level denial here. It's okay to like something someone else doesn't, I mean for pete's sake I like Batman V Superman so I think my stance is fairly obvious. But acting like it's free of faults when it isn't? And acting like everyone else was just over expecting? This dude is in denial, no doubt about it.:ajbemused:

Again, great episode man!

Here's my thought... I am able to play some of the older Mega Man games. I'd rather just play what was good to begin with that still technically exists over this... thing. Cry crocodile tears if you want, Comcept, but you ain't getting a cent from me.

I suppose the animated series might have potential, but then so did MN9 when announced so... I'm skeptical to say the least.

"It's not perfect, but it's better than nothing." ~ Worst sales pitch ever. :trollestia:

Oh, it was part of the Mighty No.9 trailer. The announcer literally said "Make the badguys cry like an anime fan on prom night", basically insulting every single fan of anime as the trailer stereotyped anime fans.

4070484
NO

Don't waste money on this. It's not worth it.

4070497
Holy crap that was hilarious! :rainbowlaugh:

4071416
Wait, Deep Silver developed Ride to Hell?

...

...suddenly a lot of things make sense. :rainbowderp:

4071787
Yep! Back to Megaman X!

4072307
Published, not developed, but yes, the same people who published Ride to Hell Retribution thought the anime fan on prom night line was acceptable.

4072314
Wooooooooooooooooooow.

That's unacceptable. :facehoof:

Oh god I didn't know this had become a series

4073355
Not yet, but it's getting there. :raritydespair:

4074293

Why, just...why

I can't understand

4075103
You and just about everyone else.

4075104

Everyone except people like THEM :pinkiesick:
