Spice Up Your Life review

Another week, another episode. This time we see Pinkie and Rarity team up (again) for an adventure in Canterlot for a cutie map episode. When they introduced the Cutie Map I enjoyed all those episodes from last season. It was fun to see different pairings with the mane 6. It also gave us an interesting view into other localities in Equestria that we had heard of but never visited (except for Manehatten).

After thinking about it for a bit though, I have to admit that they did follow a formula: first the pair would be called to a location, when they arrive at said location they would inadvertently stumble on the problem at hand, next they would try and fix it by doing the wrong thing, and only after they discovered that what they thought would fix it only made it worse do they figure out what was really needed and complete the friendship mission. Spice Up Your Life does much of the same. My thoughts below.

This was an okay episode for me. Nothing bad about it and definitely better than Applejack's day off but nothing profoundly and deeply thought provoking about it like other episodes from this season have been. All it had going for it in my opinion were the moral and the father/ daughter pair. About the moral I will say it is a very important one, considering the social climate right now. It is only after seeing that their food is very tasty and unique does Rarity realize that just because something is popular doesn't make it the best. Also she realizes that people/ponies are different and that it is the best thing in the world when we celebrate our differences and that just because others think differently than you doesn't mean they're wrong. Like I said very important for people to remember.

I did like the design of the father and daughter, as well as their interactions. They somewhat reminded me of Ember and Torch from Gauntlet of Fire earlier this season. You've got the overbearing father who doesn't believe that the daughter will succeed but is still willing to support his daughter and you've got a very headstrong daughter who doesn't think she should sacrifice her integrity or what makes her special for anybody/pony. The song was catchy but not as catchy as last weeks episode. That's about it for Spice Up Your Life. Next week. . . we don't have anything since we don't have anymore new episodes until November.
