... I dunno why, I just wanted to rant a little and see whom speaks up. *shrug*
The Dumbest Pony in Equestria is not a character in the show... but she is a character in the side materials. That pony is Princess Amore, former ruler of the Crystal Empire before Sombra screwed things up. Why do I call her the dumbest pony?
1. How she obtained the Crystal Heart.
Journal of the Two Sisters, from what I hear, gives backstory as to why a relatively fragile artifact is the power source, shield, and the like for the Empire. Or at the very least, it gives away how it came to be so.
Princess Amore stole it from a dragon's treasure hoard.
Had Celestia not attempted negotiations with the dragon, the Empire would have been in ruins long before Sombra came along. She didn't ask. She just took it and left because it was pretty, and essentially nearly got her people killed.
2. Her handling -or lack thereof- of Sombra.
Say what you will about the "quality" of Fiendship is Magic. I think majority of it is sub-par at best, awful at most. Sombra's story made him much more sympathetic, which arguably is not very good for a big bad villain that, in show-canon, got vaporized. Sombra, for spoils, is a living mass of darkness called an Umbrum, that is only in the shape of a pony. Because of the spoils, every Crystal Fair was spent in agony for Sombra, as much as he wanted to join in the festivities, and at one point, he would have DIED if not for his only friend.
Than the dreams start. Confused and scared, he goes to the Princess Amore about this... and...
She reveals she's known all along, and expects him to do good. She expects him... to be a good pony. After year and year of torture and fear, ostracized because he looked and acted weird, nearly dying literally due to the power of the ponies' joy, and she expects him to turn out a good pony... without ever even attempting to lift a hoof to help him.
... Is it any wonder Sombra snapped, turned her into a statue and shattered her, and proceeded to conquer and enslave the Crystal Empire?
Basically, Amore is one of the worst Pony character I've ever heard of, simply because of how much of an idiot she is.
The writers seems to think that any princess not names Twilight or Cadence was idiots who shouldn't be allowed to rule a doll house let alone a kingdom. Before you ask about Luna, two words "Tantabus" and "Wedding"
Does cement my ideas for the Empire, yep I going to ignore all the supplementary materials. The Crystal Heart was the literal heart of Adamas the First, and Sombra only went the Empire after he became a wraith
