Saddle Row & Rec review · 8:53pm May 21st, 2016
Another week another episode. This time we see Rarity opening up the store that we saw her shopping for earlier in the season. Primarily Rarity centric episodes have been pretty fun and have had interesting morals, from all the way back in season one with 'Suited for Success' which was about maintaining your integrity no matter what and to not let others pressure you into doing something you don't think is very good. One of my favorite episodes from last season was in fact during the Rarity storm we got last year: Rarity investigates. This was a super fun little nod to the crime dramas of radio time and featured one of the most interesting pairings to date: Rarity and Rainbow Dash. That story didn't really have a moral but was still a good Slice of Life episode.
Of course if we talk about character centered episode, I can't not mention the 'key' episodes from season 4. All those episodes are some of the best in my opinion because they so wonderfully show what drew me into this series in the first place: There will be people in this world who think the only important thing in life is to get ahead of everybody else and sometimes these people will use your willingness to help to their advantage. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't look for the good in every person and continue to uphold the good qualities of life: Laughter, Generosity, Kindness, Loyalty, and Honesty. So without further ado, let's look at Saddle Row & Rec.
This episode was really fun. Like Rarity Investigates there wasn't much of a moral to this episode but that doesn't mean it wasn't enjoyable. I particularly liked the reference to Pulp Fiction with the Jules and Vincent ponies sitting in the diner. There were quite a few funny moments during the interviews throughout the episode such as Rainbow continually asking 'wait, are you writing all this down?' as well as the little Rarity devil and angel characters for Pinkie. Another funny scene was when Rainbow and Applejack were talking about Twilight's sweep techno dance and how lame it was, only to show that they were enjoying it while sweeping. Speaking of techno, I suppose I will have to accept the canon name for Vinyl Scratch as in fact being DJ Pon3. I personally enjoy the name Vinyl Scratch but that's just me. That's about all I've got to say about Saddle Row & Rec, our first super funny Slice of Life episode of the season. Next time, we'll be taking the day off.
