The Tsundere Archtype is a Tired Act · 12:45am May 15th, 2016

I used to watch quite a bit of anime before I dropped it a few years ago. ...And I'm glad that I stopped watching anime or manga because there are so many tropes and personality stereotypes that are ubiquitous in the very vast majority of them that it might as well be one and the same.

One such trope I will tear down in this blog is the Tsundere stereotype.

"It's not like I like you or anything, you idiot-baka!" -The most giveaway line from a girl that's trying to "hide" that they like the guy.

What's a Tsundere, those of you who managed to avoid reading manga or watching anime ask? Well, I can't exactly define it by paragraph so I'll give you a brief bullet list that'll give you the basic grasp on what a Tsundere is.

-Hot and cold personality
-Acts tough until her crush comes onto the scene
-Hits and slaps her crush when he does something stupid in her eyes
-Constantly berates and insults her crush
-Pervert (Or perv) is the primary word in her vocabulary list
-Someone in denial about her own feelings

The Tsundere is a tired act yet it somehow still charms to this day. I have seen this character archetype done a thousand times that there are very few Tsundere characters that distinguishes from one another. Mostly, they are straight up carbon copies of each other.

People usually think this kind of girl is cute because she's not sure of what to do with her feelings for her crush and her message usually comes out wrong in some kind of mildly humorous way. I don't know about you but if a girl comes up to me, asks me for a 1-on-1 conversation and the only thing she does is call me an idiot and then walk away, I'd be feeling pretty pissed off or just plain creeped out.

I usually don't like women who constantly beats around the bush with her feelings, is verbally abusive whenever you talk with her, and bitches things about me to me on a daily basis.

Tsundere characters have become this golden standard when it comes to girls in anime and manga. It's like one of the things that'll almost guarantee a hit like how Michael Bay puts in explosions in every movie he makes because let's face it, we love watching things blow up as long as it's not at our expense. Likewise, some men find that kind of woman attractive. And some men want to be dominated by a strong female, and that's perfectly fine except that girls that act or identify themselves as Tsundere isn't the only kind of girl to exist.

There are other character archtypes when it comes to girls but Tsundere is the one that gets me off the most. It's so annoying since most Tsundere girls are generic as hell and only have the bare minimum which are the characterization stereotypes that'll make you come to the conclusion that they are Tsundere.

"It's not like I like you or anything, you idiot baka!"

Whenever I hear that, I just roll my eyes and just wanna say, "Bitch, it's obvious that you do. Now either be direct and tell me why you'd like to go out with me or stay the hell away from me and never speak to me again otherwise I'm getting a restraining order for the next time you slap me in the face for no reason other than I'm somehow being a perv."

Which brings me to another thing about Tsunderes: The Pervert Card.

It's like their favorite word next to "idiot". When a guy walks into a room and happens to see a Tsundere changing clothes or some shit, they'll throw a shampoo bottle at them and scream "Pervert" at them incessantly.

Bitch! If you don't want anyone to walk in on you while changing clothes or anything that'll make you want your privacy, then lock the fucking door. I would sometimes see that kind of scene happen when the door's flat out wide open! It's like the Tsundere is BEGGING for someone to walk in on her so she'll have an excuse to hit somebody because she's "being assaulted". You're right in the vantage point when someone looks into the doorway, how are we supposed to not see you?

Here's an idea: Lather yourself in invisible liquid and don't make a sound ever again. There. You'll have your privacy and nobody will bother you. Problem solved.

Now, I've taken my shots at the Tsunderes. I'm going to take my shots at the love interests of these Tsunderes.

Why is it that love interests of Tsunderes are usually dumb as rock and can't use their brains to figure out when a girl is acting strangely whenever around them? Or, why are they so dense that they seriously can't spot the tell-tale signs that a girl has a crush on them? Also, why is the guy usually this submissive pussy that can't seem to stand up for himself against a girl that verbally (And/or physically) abuses and berates him?

I'll tell you why: Because it's practically the only way the Tsundere girl will maximize her humor factor. Usually, they are portrayed as a funny type of girl but if their love interest isn't dumb or dense, their charm would suddenly and likely disappear.

If for instance, the guy knew how to stand up for himself and then tell the girl off that she's not being respectful of his personal space or character, she'd run off crying and then the guy would somehow get labelled as this bad guy. That's right, the victim card would likely get played in this situation, even if the girl would be the one to start shit.

It is especially common in anime and manga that claim to be in the comedy genre. If you see a comedy anime, be prepared for the Tsundere. She will likely be there, I guarantee it. Sometimes, Tsunderes are so obvious and generic that it shows that the writers didn't even try to add any other characteristics to her.

The Tsundere character archetype has been done to death at this point and is essentially a cliché. If people are wondering why a shit ton of anime or manga isn't original these days then this character archetype is partially to blame.

Oh, and did I mention big boobs?
