Preview of the IceboxFroggie Story Archive · 4:31pm Feb 16th, 2016
If you missed my blog post from yesterday, read it (or at least skip down to the bolded red text and all the stuff after it) to understand what I'm talking about in this blog.
Good? Awesome. So, about that archive...
I've completed archiving Cold Rain and everything I plan to keep about it. I'm beginning the process of porting over the rest of the stories, but I figured that I'd use the archived Cold Rain to show how it'll be set up once everything is ported over.
Right here is Cold Rain's folder in the IceboxFroggie Story Archive. Everything I collected from the story is split into three parts, each with its own doc.
"Story" is pretty self-explanatory; it's the raw text of the story. I copied it straight from the .txt that Fimfiction lets you download (which is also in the folder; I'm gonna try and get all the types of formats that Fimfic lets you download, to replace the functions on-site that lets you download stories). I did edit the headers and like around on the GDoc version of the story, to make it an easier read, but the .txt version is totally unedited (except changing the author name to IceboxFroggie, of course).
"Data" refers to all sorts of numbers and statistics I collected about the story. It includes descriptions, tags, and a bunch of other numbers for your statistical viewing pleasure. I considered putting the cover art on this doc as well, but a) Cold Rain doesn't have cover art (well, it did, but I removed it a long time ago and I don't know if I still have the original file) and b) I think it'd be better to include the cover art in the folder itself as a .jpg or .png or something like that.
"Comments" refers to the comments chain on the story. I decided to copy them down by hand as opposed to copy-pasting them straight from Fimfiction into a doc, since it comes out looking terrible when you try and copy them straight in from Fimfic (this is what it looks like when you try that). This is the longest step, since I have to do most of it by hand. One thing I might be able to do is copy-paste just the text in, and then edit the formatting all at once so I don't have to hand-copy everything down. I'd still have to write the headers by hand, and change any emoticons to their BBCode equivalent (they can really mess up line spacing), but it should shave down on the time it usually takes to do it.
Since Cold Rain didn't have any drafts it went through (Bang Bang might be the only published story of mine that has actual drafts), there's no folder for that. I'm also gonna put a bunch of unreleased stuff into this archive of stories that I'm not working on anymore, so that'll be everything that isn't the story ideas on my userpage. Except maybe one idea? Not sure what I'll do with it yet. If I decide I won't use it, then I'll include it with everything else. That'll probably be the longest step, since I'll have to sift through a few old Google Drives to see what there is.
But, well, that's about it for now. I'm hoping to have everything with the published stories completely archived by the end of this week, and I'll try and sift through all my old drafts whenever that's done. I'll have more updates as they come.
