Start of a Northern Adventure · 6:40pm Feb 6th, 2016
I have been in the Canadian Actric for about 5 months now and I would like to share my trip following Canada's most northern road the Dempster Highway.
I drove the Dempster Highway at the end of September on my way to take a new position in the canadian arctic. So what is the Dempster highway and why would anyone drive it?
The Dempster highway runs ~750 km from Dawson City (not a city), Yukon until it ends currently in Inuvik, Northwest Territories (nearest city is Whitehorse, Yukon at ~1200km away). Though a extension to Tuktayaktuk on the Arctic coast will open in 2017 (then you will be able to really drive from sea to sea to sea). This highway contains some of the most amazing sights I have ever seen but be warned all 750km are a special type of gravel. The gravel is can be rougher than normal and it is common to lose a tire or two so make sure spares are brought (since I was moving I had my 4 summer tires as my spares but I never had to use them ). There is only one service station and its 350KM up the road (NEVER continue without fueling up here).
so now without further adue there are some pics from the trip:
