The Equestrian Dark Age, and a Fond Farewell

Funny story. I was going to write one more piece before I moved on to writing novels and such. It was going to be about what would happen if the Summer Sun Celebration had been held in Canterlot that year. The opening image was Twilight and Spike fleeing the city, dodging fires and crumbling buildings, after watching Nightmare Moon banish Celestia to the sun. I had the broad strokes of the plot.

The Story of The Magician and the Fiddler Continues

On 13 June 2013, however, The Ballad of Trixie Lulamoon was integrated with its prequel, in which it now comprises the third and fourth chapters. The cover image and description it had when it was a separate story are as follows:

Funny story. I was going to write one more piece before I moved on to writing novels and such. It was going to be about what would happen if the Summer Sun Celebration had been held in Canterlot that year. The opening image was Twilight and Spike fleeing the city, dodging fires and crumbling buildings, after watching Nightmare Moon banish Celestia to the sun. I had the broad strokes of the plot. I'd even choreographed the final battle. Then I watched the season finale. Yeah.

In my version, all the villains returned, all Equestria fell, and the New Kingdom of Draconia rose. Spike allowed Twilight and Chrysalis to live on the condition that they understand that the age of ponies had ended. There was also a motif about golden ages and dark ages, and whether fate can be fought on the personal or the universal level.

If you're interested, you can find my notes here. I was probably never going to get around to writing it, at least not in time for it to be relevant. Really, this just gave me an excuse.

Incredible episode, though. Like, my god. And what was that last reality, where everything was dust, black skies, and howling winds? Was that a nod to Fallout: Equestria? Because that's how I'm taking it.

This show is why I started writing. The summer before senior year, I would stay up until the sun came up, reading a love story about Fluttershy and Luna, thinking, "Why didn't anyone tell me stories could be like this? Why didn't anyone tell me life could be like this?" Then I watched the episode that introduced Chrysalis, and thought, "Yes. This I can work with."

If you ever see my name in print, you probably won't recognize it, but somewhere in the acknowledgements will be a mention of my humble beginnings here.

If it's of any interest, here's a couple pages from the novel I'm working on. It's about the rise of a culture hero who brings about a new era for the people who would kill him on sight. And a ride on a pterosaur. That's a thing that happens.

Now I've made myself sad. I'm going to go have a drink. Farewell, my friends.
