    75: (If Wondering) Not dead

Just thought I'd put that out there. This blog has been getting rather dusty. It's 100% me. Got games I'm playing and art I'm doodling, and some times when the moon is just right I publish a chapter, or two. The interest in my art and writing has fallen, so my motivation followed suit. It's a good thing really, because when the Kindness series wasn't even a series, just a story i wrote on a whim,

Still working on it, as you can tell the hair is in rough sketch. But I think I've captured a good amount of the piece to take a break from it.

#60 Life update, and Nymph re-write thoughts · 7:16pm Dec 8th, 2015

Hey guys. popping on to say I love you. Having fun in my writing classes, although with them I can't help but feel like my story list is in need of a full rework. So please pardon me (if you could, I understand I've starved you all from any updates long enough as it is.) while I go pick through editing phases throughout all of my works. My job has become manageable, now it's just me to blame. I'm still rather pensive about where to take the nymph-verse. So I started going back to the source material, which was reedling's story DtD,and its offshoots. I remembered why I wanted to write the Nymphequine to begin with, and why it mattered that the reader should read of the good nymph, but still revel when the bad nymph wins. I re-watched some videos about anti-heroes vs. villains just to get my thinking straight. so here is a list of things I wish to correct.

The nymphs themselves: During the Nymphequine's conception I was hooked on a game called TSW(The Secret War), this game required you to have outside knowledge; deciphering morse code,or knowing the Egyptian gods. This inspired me to write similarly, but I don't think I'm skilled enough to properly pull this idea off. How does this relate to the Nymph? Their name culture. A nymph isn't simply born for ex. Twilight, and forever on call such. I also liked hiding character traits in their names. Do any of you know what a Sophist really is? most of you won't,and that's in bad form on my part. Using hoity-toity words only makes an even bigger mess to follow, I digress. Nymphs use their names much like a personal vow, or to commemorate a memory. For instance Remnant re-named himself Remedy because he wished to cure the changelings, to be the remedy. In concept it's passable.

But to the reader I can see how this can be confusing. Characters changing their names willy-nilly loses their reliability. It leaves them guessing is this the same nymph I knew three choices ago? or is it someone entirely different? That leads me to my next issue.

Choices: I was born in the era of choices, most of my favorite games holds some choice mechanic in there somewhere. I was sure I wanted my story to be the same. I thought to myself " It'll be great writing practice, because you can patch up all the what ifs the reader will have." - not realizing the what if's can make a casual reader stay, maybe even make up their own stories. From the get-go I can see now I was burning ties to the reader. It doesn't help that the reader also doesn't feel like their choices are impacting anything. I stand by my word that if you picked your choices very similarly you would see a pattern, the reader could pick up what was going on. (<that right there was already flawed logic the point of choices is to choose. I really feel like a moron :<)

But I also know I'm the writer, I've already seen the paths and know the story. The reader is picking up my bread crumbs and trying to piece it all together. Which explains why so many are lost, and so many comments have relayed a "it's not right" kinda vibe. If the reader doesn't know in the barn end scene that "the queen" that mutated the chickens is Fluttershy, and that this signals that Zerene is still with Fluttershy, then who will find out? How can the reader get the information they need to read the story of a sex-crazed pony hybrid race ? How will they know that they were a once benevolent race, or that Changelings are the devolution of Nymphequine? It's up to the writer. And I feel I've gotten myself into a pretty tall order that I wasn't prepared to script. My apologies are in order. I've got a lot to mend, and I hope I can craft the series into something seamless. I hope to have mysteries that the reader will search out, but not from my lack of detail. I want the reader to understand Remedy is a good soul, but diluted by a sex-driven upbringing. Most of all I want my readers to feel the characters I've written can bleed, and cry, and most certainly moan.

I love you too. Best of luck with your re-writing.

3603972 so little to say, but it mean so much.

3605657 "mature" problems? what I've typed does hold personal baggage, but this is an issue any writer will have.

3605662 Don't listen to me, I've got no idea what's going on. :raritydespair:

I Love You Too RRCopter.
