The Cutie Re-Mark Review [Spoilers] · 3:26am Nov 30th, 2015

Well, here we are.

The end of the line.

For season five, at least...

SO- our story starts off with Twilight and Spike coming home from a speech given to a group of magic students in Canterlot, as requested by Princess Celestia (still MIA, this season). One thing I have a problem with in this scene, is the projection slide with the Cutie Mark Crusaders on it. I mean, this is Canterlot, correct? The CMC's got their cutie marks in Ponyville- how would the ponies of the class know about the CMC's cutie mark bond unless Twilight explained it? But we never do? This is more of a nitpick, mind. Upon returning, she and Spike are shocked to find that Starlight Glimmer has come for a visit. Yep, just hanging about in an enormous crystal castle...with no guards hanging about, whatsoever...even with allll that happened in the season premiere, not even a...wanted poster...

Y'know...I can see why Twilight wouldn't want guards- but she's a PRINCESS. A VIP. The boss, the king, the shah! She should know she should probably have protection, especially after Chrysalis' invasion- not to mention all the (weekly?) attacks and weird goings-on in Ponyville.

Twilight and Spike go back in time, and discover that Starlight has changed the past by preventing Rainbow Dash from performing her first Sonic Rainboom. The war with the Crystal Empire has begun, and all of Equestria is doing their part to contribute to The Cause. This occurs again and again, the future being worse each time Twilight travels back to the future (Insert obvious movie theme here).

In a show of what I believe to be ingenious on Twilight's part- she and Spike bring her back with them the final time. Revealing nothing more than the Map, and an endless wasteland. I'm going to take a moment and give a tip of the hat to Hasbro for being this dark, but I guess it'd really depend on your definition of 'dark'. Really, to me- this was a proper kudos for KKat's "Fallout: Equestria". One big reference to show Hasbro's appreciation of the fandom's works. This is really my own headcanon, but...whatever- you can believe what you want.

I'll admit it was an interesting experience seeing the many timelines and the implications Starlight's actions had on the future, and straight from the horse's mouth, no less! (Eheh...eh...I kill myself...). I also like the fact that Starlight didn't accept the "Fo:E" future, even when Twilight and Spike showed her themselves. It took Twilight actually talking to Starlight to convince her that what she was doing was wrong. So that was a nice little bonus.

Starlight's backstory is also a little heartbreaking, also considering the fact that this is the very same season that the CMC get their cutie marks at the same time. I think this little moral at the end is also a good one- friendships come and go, and you honestly never know what will happen unless you go out and meet people. This is a fact of life, that you usually don't see taught everyday. At least, that's what I took from it.

All in all, this was one hell of an awesome way to end the season. A really fantastic season finale, even if the ending song was a bit bland.

I'd also like to take a moment and thank all of you who read these- it means a lot that you take the time to, and it gives me inspiration to keep going. This is Holliday, signing off.
