New Story - I Dreamt I Was Old

    Hello!

Just a new story out. I was originally going to post a Father’s Day story but I ran overtime. This story is dedicated to my Dad and is a bit on the sadder side.

Not that anything is wrong with my dad I just wanted to write a story from the perspective of an older pony reflecting on their life. Which I recently had a conversation with my dad about.

Regarding the: Season Five Finale... [spoilers] · 7:30pm Nov 28th, 2015

So the season finale happened and like everyone else on this site I feel the need to talk about because my boundless egotism makes me believe my opinion is worth a dam…

It was…okay…. Not bad, had quite a few flaws and honestly was the weakest finale we’ve had since season one. You know the one where no conflict really happened.

So yeah...that’s not a great sign for these two episodes. Onto the pros...

Pros

-The Alternate dimensions were pretty cool and it was clear the writers had fun with these segments plus this allows for a lot of fodder for stories on this site.

-Starlight was particularly entertaining by straight up mocking Twilight.

-All the villain cameos.

-Decent build up to reforming Starlight especially the dead world one, which hit home how Starlight’s pettiness would eventually destroy everything.

-Zecora explaining time and its effects to Twilight.

-The fact that there was no need to blast Starlight into oblivion and no extended fight scene which was refreshing. The idea that Twilight had to talk her down was pretty unique.

-The show can now branch into different directions with less focus on Twilight, who’s character has somewhat been stunted since the end of season three. This is a good thing as it allows for Twilight to slot into a mentor like role which I think she honestly needs at this point with a new, less experienced character at the forefront. Twilight desperately needs new character devlopment.

Cons

-Starlight’s motivations are petty and stupid. Revenge is one thing but destroying the future because “Twilit ruin EVRTHNG!!!1111” felt like Starlight throwing the toy’s out the pram.

-Starlight’s backstory is garbage, her angst felt completely unjustified and told us nothing interesting about the character, for once I’d like an antagonist who has a different viewpoint to the main characters not because they were cheated once upon a time, but rather they think the world should align to what they think is best for the world.

-Starlight should not be as strong as Twilight, while I appreciate a character being around Twilight’s level, Starlight fighting an alicorn as an equal cheapens Twilight’s ascension and how special it was. Also as the Element of Magic Twilight should be vastly stronger than a regular unicorn. Starlight didn’t need to be OP just cunning and intelligent, not super powerful. Besides, wasn’t this done with Sunset?

-The ending is rushed, which is a complaint I’ve had for a while now about the show though I understand the writers are under time constraints.

-The ending is a copy and paste of the first and third Equestria Girls movie’s endings except they were done vastly better in those movies. The theme of forgiveness and learning to grow out of your past self was central to the EG universe and Sunset’s character, I have no idea why the writers wanted to replicate this again in the main show, essentially undercutting the uniqueness of Sunset’s story.

-Another villain being reformed is both tiring and annoying, the show is trying to give other characters a central role but this is the what? Fourth? Fifth? villain we’ve had reformed. The concept is a bit stale.

All and all I was hoping for more…maybe I’m being selfish, it is a kids show for little girls but you’d think that the writers would be quite able to produce a decent ending to a series. The fourth season’s ending was spectacular…this was far more muted. I’m disappointed but only because I have high standards and they may be a bit unrealistic.

Still they could turn it around next season?

In a year and a half….

Yay….:yay:
