The Wanderer (name will change) Update 1 · 1:37pm Nov 13th, 2015
For those interested I have been planning out a story based around the concept of travel, exploration, politics and so on, some may have seen my posting on the "humans in equestria" group. I got a 50/50 interest in the story based on physical feedback so I am going to just keep working on the story. This here blog is to keep folks appraised as to where the story stands while I work on it, the story will not be written overnight let alone a first chapter for a while yet. If you like stories with banditry, old-west and highwayman attitudes you might like this story. It is also politically incorrect as I take jabs at people and organizations.
Here is where the story stands so far:
1. I have ALL the locations I want to visit in Equestria down, that is done.
2. Character sheets are done (added a new one)
3. Most major points of interest have been added
4. Timing of events is being worked on (what YEAR I want this to take place) but I am not going to worry about that much if at all because this takes place outside the "MLPFIM" story line; all events are taking place before or during but in different locations so there is little to no overlap. There will be some but I want to get AWAY from ponyville/canterlot stories and just plain avoid the re-hashed areas as much as possible. --DONE--
5. Filling in the gaps, so far chapter one is pretty much fleshed out along with chapter two and three, the problem is order of events and how much to put in without dragging things down.
6. Figuring out how exactly I am going to write the FIRST chapter, the chapters that come after are easier but that one first is a doozy in that I have to keep reader interest without jack-hammering things. That balance of giving information, descriptions, thoughts, how-to and so on without boring someone to death.
7. The last part is distances, this one has bugged me because the "official" map of Equestria is... Not to scale. So I am figuring out distances and how long will it take to get from point A to B, I am trying to keep to a 365 days a year calendar for events. --DONE--
8. Figure out a story name!
Updates:
1. Travel times are done and I have a "formula" worked out on how long it takes to get from A->B. With this hurdle done I can worry less on timing and get down to figuring the chapters out now that I know how long it will take to get there. This also creates a problem in another way.
2. New character added.
3. I decided to view Equestria more or less like the USA not including Canada or Mexico, this means that the poles have shifted in my head making the US West Coast the SOUTH of Equestria and the Eastern US the NORTH of Equestria. So basically I finagled it to mean Equestria is roughly 1500 (or so) miles wide depending on where you measure and some 3000 miles north to south. Give or take a few hundred miles. This means Equestria is... Small, in some ways for a continent.
4. I have the structure and flesh added, now I am working on the outer edge before writing the first chapter(s). Might just combine the first two chapters to make it easier on writing and the reader.
5. I also have the story name down now!
6. After seeing the season 5 "world maps..." Well... I am sticking to the original, continents rise and sink overnight and god knows what else according to the new maps they are producing for the show. Also, if using the new maps is any indication then equestria is half the size of Texas. I am not going to follow "cannon" on this and just use the original and fit things in logically without adding a bunch of hubris for the sake of having it there.
That is basically where the story stands, got some -fourteen- pages and growing of "fleshing it out" to work with. Blueprint down, rough draft is ongoing in my head as I keep trying to figure out how I want things to work out.
