I write stories about pony superheroes and cruel and unusual tragedies and pony superheroes who suffer cruel and unusual tragedies. I'm currently looking both fine and OK.

    I WAS TAKEN BY SURPRISE

Okay so the thing I was doing was being on the Seattle's Angels stream thing and I was going to talk about it before it happened but I read the time conversion the wrong way round and it was actually like 2 hours after I was asked to be in it instead of 12 =D

    That's right it's meeeeeeeeeee

So, my PC broke a few months back and I made a LIFESTYLE choice to not fix it for a while to cut some stuff out of my life which included what INFINTESSIMALLY small presence I still maintain here.

Sooo... we did a thing.

Hopefully you’ve already seen the frontpage post, but if you haven’t, I’ll explain what’s gone down.

It’s pretty neat.

Long story short, a bunch of us (people who write stories about ponies, that is) got together and did a story swap - we paired up, wrote a story each and then posted them as each other to see who noticed. The most well-known authors were paired with the least (with follower count as the basis, which wasn’t entirely accurate but eh), and we went to work.

The basic rules were pretty simple. Each pair got together, hashed out an idea and then wrote a fic each. The fic had to be something the other author was comfortable posting, and they had to use a certain phrase, which you can work out for yourself.

In my case, the result of that was Twi Hard 2: Twi Harder, which AestheticB of The Immortal Game/Sparkle's Law fame posted. Twilight Sparkle Gets A Free Salad was written by him and posted by me. We didn’t actually come up with a shared prompt, because we are apparently exactly the same person. Both of us independently came up with a joke action fic in which Twilight became an action hero by reading a book, go figure!

Anyway, the main reason we did this was for the lulz, and to get a little inspiration going. If you came here from the main post, I just want to reinforce that point. The big League Of Mediocre Everycolts thing is a joke that got a little out of hand and I, as one of what you could call the “founding members” (me, Wanderer D and Obselescence), want to make it absolutely clear that this was all just for the funsies. The main blog is written “in-character,” as it were, and it comes across as a little... well, you read it. Some of us have made it srs bsns, some of us kept it for larks. But, as a whole, we was jus’ havin’ a friendly trololol.

But yes, it became apparent that we also wanted to make some kind of nebulous point. We realised that our “throw out invites and see what sticks” approach had landed us some rather big names, so we decided to see just far “fame begets fame” was true in FimFiction’s case. In me and B's case, it was super-weird. Turns out if you post two similar stories by similar authors at exactly the same time, they do exactly the same. Both nearly got featured, but we just missed out.

Lastly, we just wanted to get some people exposure. There are great authors out there in FimFic that have far less attention than they deserve, and this was one way of getting them that attention. The upshot of this for you guys is that you get sweet stories! And some of them really are sweet. I recommend... well, pretty much everything we produced. Some are fun, some are dark, some are cute, all are good.

So... I guess that’s it. I’ll just end by saying that everyone involved has had a blast (to greater or lesser extents - some of us weren’t quite prepared for just how screwed we were going to collectively get), and that you should go and read all of their stories. And... thanks for being patient with us.

PS: Go and read all of AestheticB's stuff. It's dark, it's bloody, and it's great. And both Sparkle's Law and Twilight Sparkle Gets A Free Salad made me laugh out loud. So gogogo.

I just read the post by SS&E and saw the notification for this and immediatley KNEW you were in this as well... Cheeky bugger! :pinkiehappy:

Oh and appearantly you got a frontpage blog post as well.

Kudos, you pulled a really good prank on us. An eye-opening one at that.

That really explained a lot.

I happen to be following both you and AestheticB, and it was pretty strange that you both uploaded a Twilight story at pretty much the same time. Little did I know that you had swapped them :rainbowkiss:.

I thought the writing in Twi 2: Twi Harder looked familiar. Hilarious, as was Twilight Gets a Free Salad.

That was really an entertaining experiment, and I'm looking forward to the next one you guys decide to conduct.

Well, uh, first off, sorry for calling someone else's writing your best work? That probably kind of sucks to hear, regardless of circumstances that are entirely your fault.

But huh, this was actually a lot cooler than the dumb emblems everywhere made it seem. You guys probably could have done a better job of not looking like you were flaunting a circlejerk of famous writers just because, by the way.

The state of popularity in this fandom doesn't seem so bad, though. I don't really see any great writers languishing in obscurity if they're making the slightest attempt to get noticed (but I suppose if they did exist, by definition I wouldn't know about them, so maybe it's not a great topic for anecdotal proof). I mean, quality to recognition isn't perfect, but if anything it seems like we err on the side of praising things that don't excel more often than the opposite.

273814 Heh, don't worry about it. I mean, I think one thing people haven't picked up on is that even though we were all going to win (exposure, fun, etc), we were all going to lose a little as well. But we were prepared for that, so... it's cool.

If it's any consolation, I hate how the blog post turned out. I really do. I was all for leaving the SCIENCE out altogether. But I undermined myself by outright stating that I undermine myself, and, well... yeah. But the thing as a whole turned out okay.

As for the emblems, haha, sorry. We got caught up in the moment, and then people only saw, like, the pre-readers' and shit. I'm sorry if we gave the wrong impression.

It's not horrific, no. But there are definitely people who deserve way more recognition than they get.

Iunno. Like I said, for me it was lulz. It started with lulz, and any SCIENCE was a far secondary consideration (because obviously it was going to be woolly as hell). I'm sorry if I offended you in any way, seriously.

Haha, what, no. Man now I feel like I offended you. I was just stream of consciousness-ing and trying to get any thoughts out at all. Coming from the perspective of a random idea on chat one day, it's a pretty sweet idea, and your and Wanderer D's personal blog posts got that across really well. I can see how it just kind of went in a weird direction. I'm perfectly fine with it.
