Twilight returns from a trip and is distressed to find that her friends have become close to Discord, making her wonder if Discord is up to something.

Princess Twilight and Fluttershy are called by the map to settle a dispute between two feuding families who can’t even remember why they are fighting.
Episode 24: The Mane Attraction:
An old friend of Applejack’s has become a huge pop star, but Applejack is worried that the singer’s manager does not have her best interests at heart.
Episode 25: The Cutie Map: Part 1:
Starlight Glimmer, hoping to obtain revenge against the Mane 6, acquires a spell that could change the past, present and future of Equestria forever.
Episode 26: The Cutie Map: Part 2:
Princess Twilight and her friends continue to fight against Starlight's attempts to alter the past, but they fear that their efforts may be in vain.

3428820 Ah. I read in something from horse news that Twilight recants her wings and crown at the end. Perhaps Twilight decides it's better to give up her throne during the fight with Starlight.
Time travel makes sense. Starlight Glimmer is obviously using spells based on Starswirl the Bearded's most advanced magic. And time travel was one of the other things for which he was famous.
3428831 I heard that somewhere too. Here's what I think though...if Twilight gives up her wings and crown, that's a BIG leap to take for the writers, I think that will be one of the biggest plot twists of mlp since Twilight's Ascension. It would also show how much Twilight is willing to help those around her by making a great sacrifice, like a true Princess would. It could go either way, but it would really be fascinating if that happened

3428890 Y'know, I just thought of something; Twilight said she was caught in a magical time loop at the end of the Friendship Games, which means that she most likely defeated Starlight Glimmer and got to keep her alicorn status in the process.
