My First Story: The Perfect Night Sky.

Good afternoon my name is Twilight_Crow. I've been writting a story with lots of italics during this winter vacation.

When I made my first pony story, I posted it on DA, and it made it to EQD :D. But adding the italics on DA is a mess. So why not post it here? There's lots of awesome stories here on FimFiction. I love the site.

Life and WTNB. · 10:41pm Aug 4th, 2012

Hi, I´ve been around reading, but haven't done too much writing and I'm sad and sorry for that.

It started when I submitted Within The Night Bringers to EQD, they said that it had too much tell and not show, and other mistakes. I tried real hard to change chapter one and adapt it to what they asked for, until I noticed the story had stopped being what I wanted it to be, and that depressed me a bit.

By then college had started and, as many others on the site I was attacked by the devilish real life. College has been horrible for several reasons, like changes on the structure of my university course. Then my editor got really busy and couldn't work with me anymore, and I'm too shy to ask people on the internet. Though I know I have the help of some of my other friends, it's not the same without a person with the knowledge she has.

Later on, when a friend from a forum showed me a story he had submitted to EQD and had been rejected for the same reasons, I noticed something: EQD is too obsessed with the show no tell. If it is indeed a real good way of writing a story I don't think is the alpha and omega of it all. My friend had written a beautiful passage of ancient Equestria History in a format that made it feel like a History book, I found it charming as a prologue; but EQD won´t take it because it was “show no tell”. Obviously EQD's norms and standards don´t apply to every work. Now I don't feel bad about not being able to change my story for them, cause is my story, is not perfect and it doesn´t need to be, it just had to be fun for me to write.

Thanks to EQD´s pre-reader advise however, I managed to improve the first chapter of WTNB. Instead of the full rewriting I tried at first I did just few minor changes, but better is better. If you want to reread it, go ahead.

I am currently on a really needed vacation period, sadly I´m suffering of some huge writers block :raritydespair: and I still lack an editor. However, I never leave stuff incomplete so I assure the few people that liked WTNB, it will be finished in time, I don't know when but it will.

As a little bonus I finally decided to publish The Perfect Night Sky here at FimFiction. As I said before it is part of the universe of WTNB, or maybe is the other way around, since The Perfect Night Sky was the origin of the backstory that then became WTNB. I hope people get to read it again if they liked it, and maybe some new readers will share some fresh opinions.

I also have many stories in my head, but the sole idea of writing them down and all that implies is hard. I'll still give it a try to smaller projects, why not? Nothing to lose.

Thanks to everypony, and wish me luck.

Ah Life, my mortal enemy!

And EQD and their story accepting process is a tough subject; on the one hand it makes sense and they have every right to do what they want, but on the other it can be tough for those who might get run over by the bus, and it can also be unfair. I'm sure you'll find more success here.

As far as editors go, there are groups full of plenty of people willing to edit or pre-read fics, such as Author Support--perhaps you could try looking around? Though I'm sure it wont be as nice (or as comfortable, at least at first) as your friend, I bet they could help just as much. And if they don't, then hey now you know, right?

Also, good luck with getting over writer's block--have a great and powerful trixie to help:trixieshiftleft:

Sorry to learn your so disheartened by it and still not feeling the best. :fluttershysad:
Though it's good to hear your moving on and I know you'll finish, as always take all the time you need. Also don't be sad and sorry, you put alot of time and effort into your writing and it shows. Your a great writer, don't doubt yourself.

I hope your editor gets back soon and your writer block goes away.

I'll keep doing what I can unless you tell me to stop.

Best of luck,
