The Mare of the Night et altera review · 2:55am Sep 9th, 2015
Hi-o!
Technically this is a joint review for The Mare of the Night, The One that Got Away, and A Changeling's Endeavors into the Subtle Art of Wooing Mares because it's been a while since I wrote a review, but I was still reading whenever I could (so secretly I'm really behind on this, sorry).
I just finished reading The Mare of the Night. It is a simple story that centers on stress, streetwalkers, and being sick of politics.
Though this single chapter charmer represents a more gritty, realistic view of Equestria and further bears the stigmata of the "Human" tag, it does so with a grace that warms the heart, and will give you a serious case of feels.
The One That Got Away is a sustained adventure of a detail oriented Canterlot noble being granted a barony by Celestia, or rather, by Trollestia, given the shenanigans that ensue. It's a charming narrative complete with an adorable filly who enjoys books on the subject of talking ducks and is familiar with all the parts of a steam engine. Though I would be lying to say that it's fast paced, this cute little tale is a good use of your time, especially if you need to kick back.
A Changeling's Endeavors into the Subtle Art of Wooing Mares (hereafter 'Wooing Mares,' because man what a mouthful) chronicles, as might be expected the perils and difficulties of romance as a changeling infiltrator. With everything from divine intervention to good old fashioned beatings to poetry conventions, this fusion between humor and romance was a pleasure to read, and I recommend it.
toodles!
