Recapped

It is not the darkness in the story that makes it beautiful. It is the light that rises after it reaches the dregs of despair. Hope. The realization that. while not ideal, things ended well

Regarding Narration: In Character versus out of character. Way too early morning of the second day · 8:06am Sep 6th, 2015

I love characters.

If someone mentions some sort of tabletop game that they are playing I find my thoughts immediately drifting to what sort of characters I would create in that world (right after I am done inquiring as to what sort of character they are making). Heck, I like characters so much that I am currently testing an early version of my own game system designed around character and story development where the game mechanics come directly from your character's background. Man i got distracted by that. Anyway, tangent over.

So, I love characters. I love thinking about what a character would do in varying circumstances. It just makes me happy to ask and explore those questions. That said, it is very strange to think of those questions while writing a story from a certain character's perspective. You see, my protagonist is actually pretty prolific which is unusual for the setting and it makes writing her a somewhat surreal experience. Why? Because I am not the only one asking "what would be the best way to word this" for myself but also for her. It is like the movie inception but... with editing (that would probably be a terrible movie/plot concept).

While writing I sometimes find myself asking "ok, so my character has certain quirks that could come through in her writing. However, I don't want to let too much through because 1. That is bad writing and I don't like and 2. That is bad writing and she would not like it. However, it should come through but finding that balance is odd. I find myself asking myself "How much is too edited for her narration?" and I just don't know. I imagine this comes with time? Hopefully.

I wonder because in say the original Fallout Equestria Little Pip was the narrator yes but her words/memories were edited by Lifebloom. Then we have Project Horizons where we do not really know who recorded and distributed Blackjack's deeds or through what medium it was accomplished. Perhaps I am thinking about it too hard. Regardless, it has me thinking. And now that those thoughts are out I can sleep. May your day, night, or afternoon be pleasant.
