    Computer Troubles

I recently took my computer in for inspection and found out that either the charge port had shorted out or the motherboard is having issues. This means that my computer can't charge a battery. Thankfully, I still have warranty on it, so it's out for repairs. I have been issued a loaner in the meantime, so I will be able to continue my normal editing activities. Sadly though, I can't download

    Merry Christmas!

Not really too much to say here, but have a good time everyone!

Now is one of those few times I'm the year where everyone can get together with their families and share a nice talk over cups of hot chocolate and coffee and laugh about good times.

Remember everyone, it's not about the gifts. It's the memories you make. Hope you all have a good one!

It's Finally Here! · 4:57pm Aug 6th, 2015

Yesterday, was a great day. Etrian Odyssey Untold II: The Knight of Fafnir came out! :rainbowkiss:

I picked it up, having had a preorder and promptly popped it into my 3DS. It's already proved itself to be a great entry in the series. It's been boosted from the series' normal 1-2 save files to having a whopping 8 files to save on! :pinkiegasp:And with access to both story mode and classic mode from the get-go. I'm now about 2 hours into both sides.

The story party is an interesting mix, the personalities are great, though they certainly aren't a class composition I would have strung together. They require a different approach to use than I'd usually do. But dang, that Fafnir Knight class. Restricted only to the main character in story mode specifically, the Fafnir Knight has access to some pretty cool elemental sword/katana attacks that absolutely destroy enemies. When he's transformed by the power of Fafnir,

he gains access to new attacks that can deal a spectacular amount of hits to enemies. It's only available for 3 turns though, which is a nice tradeoff. I can really feel the power in using those skills, and it feels epic to just whale on enemies like that. :rainbowdetermined2:

For a classic dungeon crawler game, this thing is hard. Unlike a lot of games of its genre, the opening enemies can kill any one of your party members in two hits. :twilightoops: A surprise attack can often spell doom for a party just because of how strong monsters are. Add that in with the patented turn based system. Roaming the floors of the Yggdrasil Labyrinth are large enemies visible on the map and overworld called FOEs. (Field On Enemies) These nasty guys roam in set patterns or chase your party around to try to attack you. When you first meet a given FOE, it will be able to kill your entire party in a turn or two. Your best chance is to run away. Thing is, if you get caught in a battle with normal monsters, each turn you spend in battle, the FOE moves closer, joining in on the battle on top of the normals if he reaches you.

I have to talk about the customization! There's so much of it! In the classic mode, you're given access to 11 classes, 12 if you download the Highlander class from Etrian Odyssey Untold I (for free). Devoting skill points to a talent tree unlocks new abilities, both passive and active. I've made my party consist of a beast who tanks for my party like a boss, a dark hunter who inflicts ailments and binds (a special, unique kind of ailment that prevents the use of certain parts of the body, preventing certain attacks using those parts), a highlander to deal lots of damage and heal for things he kills, a gunner that shoots enemies with elemental bullets and provides support from the backline, and a medic, who does exactly what you'd think he does.

Did I mention this game was hard? There are super bosses at the end, just like you'd find in a classic Final Fantasy game. And they're harder than the regular bosses, who will often have your party down to the last man and literally scraping the bottom of your item bag on a regular basis. Thankfully, you can use that super cool bind function I mentioned earlier on them too, and you should, cause it'll save your life.

Other cool features include making your own dungeon map, which is now more interactive than ever, subclassing through a system called grimoire stones, which is sort of complicated and hard to use admittedly, and events that happen in the dungeons. If you come to a dead end, there will often be an event associated with the area.

"You find a strange, appetizing fruit growing from a tree. Do you eat it?" :unsuresweetie:

"There's a clearing in the middle of a grove of trees with some comfortable looking rocks, do you take a rest there?" :applejackconfused:

These events can give you cool items, much needed healing, cause your party damage, or force encounters with monsters, or multiple of the aforementioned outcomes. Or you can choose not to do anything and miss the opportunity/danger. It really drives home that adventure feel.

I can't wait to play more later. If you have a 3DS and like dungeon crawler and RPG games, I'd highly suggest Etrian Odyssey as a pickup. The whole series is imaginative and quite immersive. And notoriously difficult. Bring your best strategy and a lot of patience.

i wanted to buy it, since another friends kept telling me about the whole series but to be honnest, don't have that much money to buy games for this months
plus i don't know if i would be really good at this game
i mean i'm terrible with maps that are already made for me, o not ask me to make one, it might be worse and i'l get lost in 5 minutes:rainbowlaugh:
plus f course i would have ate the fruit, duh, free meal !
And there's an Highlander class ?:unsuresweetie:

Yuuuuuusshh! Someone else who was excited about it~ ^3^3^3^

3300417

/) You're now Kestrel approved, good ma'am or sir.

What class do you make your character? Or do you make one based off of you? I'm the gunner in my party. :rainbowkiss:

3300404

The map making isn't really that hard, and it's extremely useful and rewarding when you make it, rather than having it autofill in other games.

And yes, there is a highlander class, though it looks more like this: tse4.mm.bing.net/th?id=JN.gUdEhAX3BR6v5bkBJrsPKw&pid=15.1

3300431 looking cool, though it needs more Sombreros

3300447

And you need more Etrian Odyssey :rainbowwild: Seriously good buy. Get it when you make up the cash xD

3300459 not with all those new games i'll have to buy:raritydespair:
Gears of war ultimate edition, Assassin's creed syndicate, COD black ops 3, Halo 5, Star wars battlefront and Rise of the Tomb raider
good thing, i don't have to think about Destiny anymore:applejackunsure:
this game stole me too much money

3300499

This is an advantage of not having a huge amount of systems. Not as much choice, so I can feel good about choosing my games since there's no opportunity cost as far as the game choice xD

3300505 i only got mt xbox but my poor DS is all alone with Super smash bros x)
may be i'll try getting etrian odyssey later, that or Fire emblem awakening

3300424 I only just started the story mode, so I have to be a Fafnir. But I suppose I can do the classic mode too, with the extra save slots. Is classic mode the original Etrian Odyssey 2?

3300525

Apparently, the classic mode and story mode have pretty similar stories, which is similar to the original, though I have never played the original. I'm currently playing both classic and story mode at the same time, taking each party a few floors at a time.

3300523

Fire Emblem Awakening is really good. But they're coming out with a new Fire Emblem sometime in 2016, I'd expect early. And this one looks like it's going to be even better than Awakening.

3300538 i hope it won't be to early , i got Dark soul 3 to buy
and i can't miss that one, still better try to get the first one as well, i love the Fire emblem and it would be a waste to not play Awakening

3300554

Oh yeah, like I said, Awakening is a great game. I loved it dearly. I just think the next one's gonna be even better. Have you read on it at all yet? It's now named Fire Emblem: Fates

3300536 ^-^
You're on Expert?

3300566 just looked at it and there's even going to be a multiplayer, now that sounds cool
to bad we're gonna get new characters again, i was starting to think that Chrom was cool and i'm still missing Ike and the black knight

3300591

Only way to play :raritywink:

3300597

Ike and TBK had two games, so I think they had adequate coverage. And besides, Chrom can appear in Fates in a dlc mission. So can Robin, Marth, and Ike (not sure about Lucina) because of their amiibos. And three of the children units from Awakening are making return appearances. Wherever Fates takes place is where the future children fled to in order to avoid conflict with their original selves. I think it's an interesting wrinkle.

3300613 could be good:twilightsmile:
but two games for the radiant saga aren't enough:ajbemused:

3300660

I thought they wrapped it up nicely. And personally, I think Ike is overrated. That, and they needed to desperately improve the support system they butchered in those games :ajbemused: Those made me want to cry after coming off of other FE games with good supports. There were lots of characters in the radiant series, but they all kinda fell flat for the most part because we knew hardly anything about them.

3300608 It IS hard. Like, the first enemies wiped me out no problem! D:
But I guess it's like Pokemon: the toughest part is starting out. I should have kept the wolf with me so I could level up before I left the stratum XD

3300939

Yeah, it's a good idea to grind a level or two off wulfgar. And man, I can't wait to fight the superbosses.

3301118 I just need to get to finding the time to play the game again. XD And yeah, I should have

3301961

I've discovered the specific weaknesses of each of my parties XD

The story party doesn't have a lot of damage control. If they can't use their buffs to prevent damage or conditions, they can't heal as well and can't revive.

My classic party had the opposite problem. Right now, I can't prevent any damage except by using Kibi(my beast) to tank all the damage with little damage prevention. It's a good thing her health can triple for a short time.

3301961

Ahhhh man. Eargasm.
