In personality psychology, locus of control refers to the extent to which individuals believe they can control events affecting them. Understanding of the concept was developed by Julian B. Rotter in 1954, and has since become an aspect of personality studies.
Internal Locus of control: The belief that YOU control what happens to you. Knowing that yes, outside things can come and effect you, but the deal is. If you succeed its because YOU made yourself succeed.
These individuals are most commonly found in the higher side of life, they got when the getting was good because they knew that they could act on their own, the universe chose NOTHING for them, THEY had to make the choice.
"I don't care what YOU think, I KNOW I can do it so back down, I have work to do"
External Locus of control: The belief that you have no power, The world or OTHERS control what happens to you, rarely acting on any real choices these people believe that no matter what they do or want, the world will chose for them.
These individuals are most commonly found writing in a pit of depression and failure. Blaming the world for all their problems and instead of seeking a way to improve, they wait for either something to lead them out of it or they wait for someone to do the work for them.
"No, I cant. Its not possible. I don't care how much YOU think that I can do it. I cant, its not possible"
I am bringing this up because too many people around here on this site are submitting to the idea that its all over, that they have no real way of winning. Its not in their control.
The mere fact that both groups exist is proof positive that there is at least some degree of choice. No one is controlled by the universe unless they allow themselves to be controlled. Even if the Universe does demand something from you. Even your very lives, it still doesn't control you. YOU control YOU. If I were to die today, RIGHT NOW. I would have the option to simply let it happen or die fighting. That is still a choice, and its MY choice. As so it to would be yours. If someone were to take my life in hope that I died in fear and despair. They would be disappointed to see my life fade away as a smile was plastered across my face. Even when there "is no choice" you still have a choice, The belief that you have no power is a lie. You don't have to feel sad, you don't have to live in despair or anger. Even if the world attacks you and wont budge an inch. YOU STILL HAVE POWER. Use it.
