Things about professional life that I learned when making a video-clip · 3:06am Aug 1st, 2015

Hello everyone, Wave "The Sound" Blaster here with a new article to pass time while I'm not able yet to write the fics due to me still being tied up to university. This time, however, instead of one of my usual reviews wit Pinkie and Trixie, or one of my social problematic ramblings or an editorial, I want to give you guys something somewhat useful, as also share a recent experience in life that taught me one or two things about life itself and the kind of society that is the western culture.

#1: Without a leading figure, any kind of organization will eventually collapse.
This one is a hard one to admit for me. Before doing this blasted project, I was all the way with Rousseau and his "people are good by default" mindset. However, working on a team taught me that, regardless of any good wills or common objectives, if there isn't someone taking charge of things, everyone will try to do things "their way" which can (and will) collide with someone else's way. In a beautiful display of physic laws being applied to social situations, both opposing accelerations will cancel each other, reducing the project's advance to zero.

This will happen once, twice, trice and all over the place, repeatedly, if there isn't someone who's assigning tasks and shouting orders. Whatever it is, a group of persons needs to be told how to work together.

And the winner is... Hobbes!

Maybe Hobbes hasn't been always right, hell, maybe tomorrow he will be wrong. But right now, on this society and this culture, Hobbes is the damn boss, which drives us to the second point...

#2: In case of emergency, almost everybody will try to cover their own butts before admitting anything.
This one is another of those that I didn't want to acknowledge when I first saw it. This time, because it goes against all I stand for.

People usually asks me why do I like super-heroes that much, to the point of declaring actual love to the platonic ideal of heroism (don't ask, it was a weird weekend anyways). My usual response to said question is that it's because I really like the idea of people worldwide and through history making up, telling and being inspired by a concept as simple as doing the right thing. It can be by idealism like Superman, by cynicism like John Constantine, or even by madness like Don Quijote de La Mancha, but there's always the constant that the writer and the reader look up at the person who wants to do the right thing.

Of course, when I said "look up to" I wasn't considering from where we were looking up at. It happens that the contemporaneous man (and woman too, btw), even if likes to pretend he wants to be good, will barely flinch if he has to do something outright wrong, even harmful to others or to himself, in order to achieve a goal. However, when confronted with the consequences of such act, the subject will do anything, literally anything in order to avoid any form of comeback and place the blame on someone else, before even considering to admit his share of blame in the matter.

Oh Megatron, I feel for you so hard right now.

#3: If you hate what you're doing, it will be hell on earth.
Okay, so far I've been only pointing out wrong things, but not a way to avoid them. The first one can be prevented by having someone (preferably someone who can keep a cold head) on the first step of hierarchy, while the second one is easily avoidable by acting like adults and no fearing to admit the responsibility of our own acts. Now, with this one I want to focus more on the solution and be straightforward instead of a long explanation. Ready? Okay here it goes;

Do all in your reach to work with something you can enjoy, for if you end up in a project around something you actively don't like, you will end up considering using windows as a method of exiting a building.

Seriously, the "do what you love..." advice is completely true in every possible aspect.

See that smile? The smile of someone doing something he loves? It's worth a thousand of times more than any amount of money or college credits.

4#: If things are going south, get ready, there's a storm ahead.
I don't care how many people tells, in both sides of the world, how much a crisis is an opportunity in disguise. If something goes wrong, it will not be alone. It doesn't matter what are you doing, the possibility of mistake is always different of zero and there's no way in heaven or hell that a mistake can stay isolated. So, in case something goes wrong, try to keep calm and embrace yourself,; the domino effect is already in motion and things are about to get worse.

Damn straight!

With that said, there's a way to cope with it, with all of it, which is our final point.

5#: Friends are life, take care of them accordingly.
I've took a good amount of time contemplating, saying out loud and even writing down how bad has been this project to me. However, I can assure you, people, over every higher power or platonic ideal you may like, that it could have been far, far worse if it wasn't for my friend who worked with me through it all. We both supported each other and, I have no problems admitting it, kept each other sane during all this train-wreck of music video.

Friendship is, indeed, f*cking magic. No matter who you are or who are your friends, together, you can overcome anything.

...except finding a car after an epic drunk. In which case, no amount of friendship will help you.

Totally agree with your second idea, and i keep meeting peoples like this.
I've always been thiking that it's better to always be proud of what you did, and saying it with no shame, even if it wasn't nice
better show that you got some "cojones" and are ready to take the blame like a man.
And it's funny, when those same peoples are insulting you, trying to feel better than you.
what was that ? back stabbing your freinds in the back and speaking of me like if i was the devil ?:moustache:.

Anyway, got to go for my part, get some rest Wave, and have a good day and night
