Well they did leave it in there, but they shortened it considerably.

It seems they liked doing that in the Evil Dead and Army of Darkness films. One moment, his face will be literally covered in blood or mud, mainly blood, and the next moment, their might be some reminiscent crustaceans of the substance, but nothing else.
