Five Nights At The Lab · 8:24pm Jun 3rd, 2015
So I had an experiment today that required 6 hours of incubation. That wouldn't be so bad if the previous step didn't have to be exactly 48 hours beforehand.
I did the previous step at 2:00pm on Monday.
Tonight at 8:00pm, after dinner and some time goofing off I went back to the lab. For the second time this summer I was completely alone in that building.
It's really creepy at night. To get to my department you have to go through the basement, which had a super low temperature storage room, a morgue and radioactive storage one next to the other. It's also one of those creepy basements with peeling paint, some exposed bricks and a bunch of pipes in the wall.
I'm not saying that the zombie apocalypse will start in Germany, but...
Up in my lab there were to automatic doors, one into level 1 labs and one into level 2. You don't know how creepy those things sound when you're in alone at night in a room that opens into the middle of a very long hallway. To make it worse, Level 2 labs are maintained at negative pressure. I thought that moaning in the door was annoying during the day, but I was seriously considering sacrificing a lab mouse on the threshold to save my soul.
Why didn't I do it? Well, the mice are kept in a sterile mouse room in the next building over, and you have to change into special clothes and go through an airlock to get to them. And at this time of night I can guarantee that there's an evil mutant zombie rat king in that airlock.
Anyways, I did my work, locked up the labs, and only then did I realize the lights were off in the elevator lobby.
And the basement hallway.
I'll let King explain from here:
