I need someone to help me. I have the start of an idea for a new alternate universe story idea. More specifically an idea for a pilot story of another alternate universe series.
I don't want to end up writing another pilot for a series, I already have three. That doesn't include other potential series ideas I want to work on, or alternate universe stand-alones. So I'm putting the idea up here for someone else to find and use. I ask that they please do so or I will end up writing it and having another start to something.
The part I have is this: the main character is Pipsqueak. He is a member of the guard and has a changeling drone as his assistant. Pipsqueak and his drone are sent on a mission by the princess -- which happens to have him dealing with the return of an ancient evil. In my version, he would be sent to Ponyville because he had grown up there and was familiar with the town.
Now because it's Pipsqueak, it could be Princess Luna who is in charge and gives the assignment (that was what I was thinking originally), but it could also be a good version of Nightmare Moon (which I thought of after and really like the idea of), or even Discord.
So if made as an alternate universe version of the pilot, Pipsqueak would be sent to Ponyville -- where he grew up -- along with his changeling assistant to check on things for the big event. As he does, he runs into ponies that he used to go to school with, and -- somehow -- are connected to all of the preparations.
The Cutie Mark Crusaders could be used, but so could other characters, like a more mature Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon, Rumble, Dinky, et cetera.
That's kind of all I have on the idea.
So please, someone take this away from me before I decide that I have to use it myself.
That is a very interesting idea actually, I think I'd go with Discord, since it's usually Celestia or Luna who are ruling, I even saw Cadence once, but never Discord, maybe they ruled together, keeping a balance between Harmony and Chaos, tipping the scales when one got too far ahead. But the Sisters began to grow resentful of Discord for various reasons, they all feared Luna and her night, treating her almost as a Grim Reaper like figured and were terrified that if they made even the slightest faux pas, Celestia would burn them to ashes while they all adored the fun loving Lord of Chaos, they tried to bury it, but it was not enough, one fateful day, they snapped, Nightmare Moon trying to force the land into Eternal Night so ponies would have no choice but to appreciate her, Nightmare Corona attempting to bring Eternal Day, trying to burn the land to the ground so there would be none left to fear her. Discord tried valiantly to stop them, doing his best to try and reason with them, but they wouldn't listen, so he eventually had to do the unthinkable, he used the Elements of Harmony to banish them to their own respective celestial objects, but their harmonic nature combined with Discord's chaotic magic meant it would only last for a thousand years, it caused a feedback loop that turned the Elements inert, leaving Discord as the last line of defense for Equestria, forcing him to become more serious. Over the course of time, he helped Equestria thrive, fun loving as ever, but as the sole ruler, he could no longer simply goof off all the time.
As for the other characters, I'd imagine the CMC would take the place of AJ, Rarity and Dash, possibly with their own twist, Dinky helping out Fluttershy with her animals, Rumble possibly as another member of the Weather Team, possibly serving as Scootaloo's second, as for Diamond and Silver, I'd imagine they'd mellow out in age, and while their snarking can be a bit vicious at times, they're better ponies.
And all this is not helping you resist the urge to not write this AU, is it?
3117005 Actually I was thinking it up late last night and have a very different idea forming. You do have a good layout to the idea though. I was wondering how to explain Discord if he did get used, which you did.
As an addition: I had the idea that -- if Discord was ruler -- the events could happen on a day of his own invention called Discord Day, which is the equivalent of April Fools' where ponies spend the day pulling jokes on each other. So when Discord goes missing and the villain (or in your example, villains) appear to try and take over, at first the ponies think that it is some sort of extremely elaborate prank.

That could work. I'd imagine Celly and Lulu would grow gradually more annoyed and have to give the ponies a demonstration of their power. Or, since Discord is already good, maybe, only one of them went insane at first and the other was forced to use the Elements of Harmony against her sister, and the ponies grew paranoid, wondering when the other would snap, and eventually, she does snap and serves as the Season 2 premiere villain. As for Discord Day, since Discord doesn't do things in half measures, maybe it's a day where all order is abandoned for one day and everypony is allowed to go as crazy as they want as long as nopony get seriously hurt. A way for Discord to vent as well, in a sense, because, having to actually be serious must be hard, and all that frustration would build up, so it'd be a way for him to vent on a yearly basis so HE doesn't go insane.
