Writing Prompt #1: Love/Romance · 12:02am May 31st, 2015
This is a post for The Equestrian Writer's Guild, the group I am a part of, as a writing prompt they are doing.
True love. It is something that I thought only existed in either fairy tales that a mare or stallion reads to their foals before bedtime, or in a cheesy romance movie that most mares go crazy over. We grow up wondering if true love actually exists. Is it some unseen force when two ponies are together and care deeply for each other, or is it just our body’s physiological response when we are with someone we care about? I’m not here to discover the true answer to that question, if there even is one. I just know that’s what I feel when I’m with him. Is that wrong? A stallion like me, Soarin, a member of the Wonderbolts, a stallion that most mares want to be with and most stallions aspire to be like. Although, as cruel as it may sound, I have no interest in that kind of relationship with a mare. I have not made my feelings public knowledge yet; I am still “in the closet” as the saying goes. I know I have to break the news to Rainbow Dash soon; she has been vying for my attention the most. She keeps putting herself in these awkward situations as she tries to “put the moves” on me and I keep coming up with excuses to turn down her advances. I’d hate to lead her along, thinking I want to have that kind of relationship with her when I really cannot. I love her, but not in that way. My heart belongs to another, a certain Earth pony stallion that as an affinity for apples. I can’t explain why I feel this way about him. Maybe it’s something as simple as his deep, red coat, his emerald green eyes, his orange mane that is almost like the color of autumn leaves, or maybe it’s because when I’m with him I just feel…right. Like I could spend an eternity with him and not regret a thing. If this is a dream, then I do not want to wake up from it.
You did a really good job exploring his problem in a small space. I enjoyed reading it.
