Memorial Day and Children

Spent Memorial Day with my daughter. She's old enough to understand the basics of being a soldier and the concept of death, so she voiced how worried she was for me since I'm still in the army. I went and explained to her that I'm not fighting in the war anymore and that if I did go back into service I would have friends to protect me. The kid replied with, "so the magic of friendship will protect you?" That got a little kick out of me, sometimes kids say the best things at the best times. Hope you take the time to really talk with your children if you have them, they really are something special.
