Political Story potential from Griffonstone

We know that Griffonstone has no government anymore and is using the Equestrian currency standard. We can also conclude that the Government / Princesses of Equestria will be informed of this as soon as RD and PP return from their trip.

What if the equestrian nobility were to want to attempt to puppet-stating Griffonstone in the name of "promoting friendship through pony government and social engineering?" What if there was a divide between the alicorns about whether or not this would be a good or evil idea? What if Griffonstone has squabbling warlord-tribes that would need military action to control?

These are just a few ideas I can think of, off the top of my head. It makes me wish I was actually much better at writing.
