Introduction To This Idea
I've always wanted my channel to stand out, I feel like if I review stories, it might attract some attention. That's not the only reason, I want to be able to deliver my ideas and opinions on different stories that people may not like. I hope you guys enjoy this new segment coming very week!
Introduction To Story
Ello eveypony! It's me, you're DailyJoker, here with something new I want to bring along with my writing! Reviewing stories! I want to thank the lovely Dustchu for letting me review their story, Return: Tales of the Lost, which by the way is *in a high pitched voice* AMMMMMAAAZZZINNNNNNGGGGGG. Sorry, that was unprofessional of meh. So let's get onto the review, shall we?
Backstory
I've never really been one to actually read the Fallout Equestria stories. I mean, I had almost no real knowledge about the Fallout Universe until, oh I'd say around 4 months ago? I never checked out the story because I had watched the AnY Pony do a review of the fanfic with his friends, and he had said there were TONS of references that I wouldn't get if I didn't have much knowledge about the Fallout Universe. So I went to my local GameStop, and picked out Fallout 3 and New Vegas. All I can say after playing through those games multiple times is, wow.
There's a lot of information to process about the universe, and after completing the games, I jumped right on the idea of reading the Fic. I was really glad I did! I found lots of nice and interesting ideas, and they were just amazing! Now, this didn't mean that I went onto FimFiction and read all of the Fictions containing a Fallout crossover.
Now you might be asking this question then, "Joker, why did this one, out of all the ones out there, attract you?" Now I didn't even know the answer until a while ago, but I did, in fact I love this story because it put a nice twist on the Fallout Universe. This twist I just didn't feel was actually in the original Fallout Equestria.
Chapter 1: Return I: A Tall Tale To Tell
Summery
So in this chapter, we are told about a creature called the Voidling, now the Voidling is a creature taller then Big Mac and is taking ponies away, including, the CMC, Ditzy, Dinky, Sparklier, and DJ-PON3. Now, the Voidling didn't just upright take the CMC and leave, but instead, chased them off into some forgotten place in the woods. Through a scene that is heart-warming, Apple Bloom, and the rest of the CMC are brought back to the distraught AJ. The ponies are brought to the Royal sisters and they have to confess their stories to them. Scootaloo is very reluctant, but that doesn't stop the stories from coming out.
Now this next part, was kind of strange. The CMC emerge two objects, one of which is a long black metal device, and another which is a rectangular box. The box, is a laser rifle. The weopn of choice for Apple Bloom. Of course, the six elements and the sisters, of course are taken back by this. As they would have thought that their sweet sisters, and Scoots, would have never done this kind of stuff, especially not have weapons.
Now, AJ takes into consideration that these ponies may not be the same ponies that they were when they had left. I think she's right. I'm going to tell you the descriptions of the armor and clothing they are wearing, straight from the book.
Scootaloo
Scootaloo sat in the middle of the three. The clothing she wore was a dull shade of blue with a duller shade of yellow going around the collar that covered the majority of her body like a tight jumpsuit, several dark leather pads were stitched onto her legs and joints with a small metal plate, around her neck was a pair of goggles and a dark brown bandanna stained with red splotches and mud. Her wings were covered up by the suit so no one could see them, and she had two bandoleers wrapped around her barrel with several large pouches containing black cartridges. Scootaloo's face also bore several small scars, with a large one over her left eye that Applejack could now see was a duller shade of violet then the right. Two small objects colored black were holstered on her sides with the larger weapon she had pointed at them earlier was on her back.
Apple Bloom
Apple Bloom wore the heaviest looking armor out of the three, a large vest of an unknown dark green material was wrapped around her body, with a black tight fabric underneath covering her whole body much like Scootaloo's armor. Two large shoulder pads stood out from her forelegs that wrapped around her, along with small hardened looking plates of armor on her legs that were fashioned to not hamper her movements that resembled something like the leg armor of the Royal Guard. Apple Bloom also donned a large saddle bag crafted out of the same material as the armor she wore, the flaps were neatly shut but Applejack and Twilight spotted some objects poking out through them, some small colored strings and metal parts. Despite the armor's size and considerable weight, Apple Bloom didn't seem fazed by it. Apple Bloom's Stetson was almost like AJ's with the exception it was a dark dusty brown with a frayed brim, and a pair of welders goggles wrapped around the top. Her orange eyes were sporadically looking around, almost like she was searching for some threat that lie hidden away in the castle. The mare's mane was longer and her bow was absent, the bottom of both her mane and tail was braided and seemed darker than it usually is.
Sweetie Belle
Sweetie Belle was the most changed. Her mane was long, to the point it was hanging down all the way to her legs. Her tail was shorter in comparison however, and seemed clean as opposed to the other two. Sweets wore a light looking armor made of leather. Very small pads made of leather jutted out from her shoulders, her legs were left free as the sleeves of the suit were short, expertly cut by a trained hand. Around her barrel and legs, to Rarity's horror she saw several knives and other sharp instruments of varying sizes strapped to her body, butcher knives, cleavers and others one would find in the Griffon Empire or Minotaur lands. Lashed onto her sides were two large white boxes with the universal medical cross. Her face was pristine of dirt, save for a few red specks near her neck.
So the mane 6 tell about what has happened since they have left. Factories were built and the royal guard and Luna and Celestia have been talking about the possibility of war. And now finally the story of The Lost begins, and the chapter's over.
Pros
I rather enjoy the cliffhanger. Many people that I have talked to about it, say that they loathe it, but I think it adds some tension to the story. I also like the level of description that Dustchu brings into the story, not too much, but also not too little, it's a nice balance. It's not like they went to a thesaurus and pulled every other word out and replaced it with some fancy stuck up word, nice touch. Going back to something I said in the Backstory, "in fact I love this story because it put a nice twist on the Fallout Universe." Now some of you might wonder what this twist that I was talking about was and that was, is that this story seems to take place before the great nukes that were dropped and made the ponies take cover in the Stables, I could be wrong and I'm pretty sure Dustchu will correct me on it, if I am wrong. It has a feeling that, seems to make it feel like it takes place before the events of Fallout Equestria and I love that. We never really had a deep description of what life was like before the Great War that killed thousands ponies. It's nice to see a Fallout story that take place BEFORE everything. That's what really sold this story to me and made me pay attention to it. Now I also like the idea of having the CMC as the main characters of this story, as these were young fillies when they left and all that they might have encountered would have changed them. Very interesting and I am very curious to see where this story goes.
Cons
I rather didn't like the fact that the clothing wasn't mentioned until they got to the royal castle. I mean, when you first see your sister wearing that clothing, you would take note of that. Also I didn't feel like at the part where AJ was incredibly sad about losing Apple Bloom, I just didn't really feel the pain with her, because we weren't really given a long amount of time to get the pain that she was feeling. Also some spelling errors, but nothing that would really ruin the reading through for me.
Overall Thoughts
I rather enjoy this and I am very excited to see where Dustchu will go with this story. A very nice first chapter and I am looking forward to more.

Though, I have a few nitpicks.
The CMC emerge two objects, one of which is a long black metal device, and another which is a rectangular box. Inside of the box, are an assortment of knifes. A set of each belonging to each one of the CMC. Of course, the six elements and the sisters, of course are taken back by this. As they would have thought that their sweet sisters, and Scoots, would have never done this kind of stuff, especially not have knives.
1: Actually.
Sweetie Belle has knives, there's no box holding them. Sweetie has a bunch of knives all over her suit.
Apple Bloom's 'box' is a Laser Rifle with a scope, and the other two attachments.
And Scootaloo's weapon is an Anti Material rifle... I think, I forgot.

2: And, um.. you might want to read the second chapter XD hehehe... eh. Doesn't exactly take place in the Fallout Equestria universe... not so much, anyways.

Hey, thanks for reading and enjoying it! I fixed the first nitpick, but check back tomorrow for the second chapter review, I'll use my knowledge to help add on to this. Also, one question, are you a boy or a girl? It's kinda weird just mentioning you as "them" in the review.
