Facts about Carthage: World building. · 4:46am Apr 12th, 2015
So yeah I'm trying to get back into writing and I thought I'd start by jotting down notes on Carthage from my hiatus story Equestrian wars. So here are just random facts about Carthage.
Carthage is a united super continent nation roughly the size of Europe and has a population of 407,326,076.
It's official name is the Sozialistischen Föderation Karthago or Socialist Federation of Carthage. Other names include Großkarthago, or "Great Carthage". Outsiders in Equestria refer to it as "Sasha Carthage".
Carthage's official and dominating language is Breton (based on real life German) with 87% of the population speaking it. Other languages include:
Titeran (Russian)
Barcelonian (Italian)
Edon (Japanese)
And Rumus (Romanian)
Carthage got it's name from the Carthaganium Empire, a human empire that was once located in Equestria that led the human rebellion during the Celestial Luna wars. Carthaginium was located in what is now Trottingham.
Carthage is occupied by both humans and anthropormorphic animals (aka furry characters). While there are a variety, the most common form of anthro in Carthage are canines in particular the fox and the wolf.
The main currency of Carthage is the Carthaginian Reich Franc. To put it's value in perspective, one Reich Franc is worth about 1.2 real world US dollars.
Carthage uses the metric system although they do have a minor difference for their unit of measurement versus the real life metric system when it comes to measuring weight (they use the "pound" for measuring weight as in 1 kilo-pound).
While the Sasha government has censored many of the musical arts, popular music in Carthage includes jazz, polka, and opera.
In Carthage, it is a custom to greet each other by placing your hand over your chest and bowing your head. This is considered a formal greeting. Physical contact like handshakes and hugging are only viewed as informal greetings. If a member of the Sasha government is present, then the proper way to greet them is with the Roman salute.
When conversing with a Carthage native, be sure to talk modestly and look at their nose instead of their face as making direct eye contact is viewed as rude in Carthage. Also, try to avoid touching your face a lot as there is a belief in Carthage that a person or pony who constantly touches their face while talking is a sign of a liar or distrustful person.
If you are thirsty, good luck finding a cafe that serves a nice cup of tea as tea isn't very popular in Carthage. While the Edon Carthaginians drink tea, most Breton Carthaginians prefer very strong coffee as a means to keep their energy up on stressful days.
The drinking age in Carthage is 18 however, it can be lowered to 16 if you are a soldier in the military. But be careful on how much you consume as public intoxication is strictly forbidden and can result in spending the night in jail and a massive 100 Reich Franc fine. Failure to pay the fine or repeated offenses will result in either three months of hard labor in a state factory or two years in prison.
There is an old saying that "Carthaginians do not have sweet tooths" and this is partially true. Carthaginians highly prefer foods that are salty and very savory. They especially love meat and are famous for their sausage and cooked vegetable dishes. They do have deserts like cakes and chocolate however, Carthaginian chocolate is notoriously very bitter! However, the Carthaginians do enjoy drinking very sweet juices and wines made from fruit. One particular favorite beverage is a drink known as Saft which is a fruit concoction made of strawberry, apple, and papaya juice. It can be served either alcoholic or non alcoholic.
Popular sports in Carthage include soccer (or football), basketball, hockey, and rugby.
Besides playing sports, Carthaginians love a good game of chess and there is an old saying in Carthage that "You can judge a man's wallet by the color of his clothes, but you judge a man's character by his first pawn move". Carthaginians view chess as a very serious game and an ultimate test of strategy and intelligence. All Carthaginian military officers are required to play chess one a week when possible to help hone their skills.
3007775 Yeah personally I'm not a fan of it.
3008117 The problem is that Nation States is rigged where your nation has to be a "democratic socialist" state in order to "succeed". Makes sense considering that the creator of the website is anti-capitalist and follows the zeitgeist movement.
3008463 That and it completely messed up my nation. I mean it says that Aljesando DeGrelle refers to his citizens as "his playthings" even though if he was real he would never refer his citizens as such.
