    Re-reading Hunter/Prey; noticed this dialogue.

Hunter (the human main character) bumps into a pegasus in the hedge maze. The pegasus freaks out and calls the guards, one of which knocks Hunter out. Then Shrouded Armor shows up and sets things straight.

“Yes.” Shrouded said sternly. “You assaulted a personal guest of the princesses.”

“I did nothing of the sort!”

    “Then explain why he’s unconscious.”

Loosely inspired by the story "Fallen Princess", which in turn was inspired by the anime "Zero no Tsukaima", or "The Familiar of Zero".

A human is drawn to Equestria by Twilight Sparkle, who cast the familiar summoning ritual. She used a Voidstone in the ritual, which would be burned up when the ritual is completed. The ritual summons a human, but he refuses Twilight's request to become her familiar and finish the ritual until he understands what's going on. She explains things to him, and he's shocked and horrified. Instead of completing the ritual, he cries "Freedom or death!" and grabs the voidstone, which negates the ritual and causes a huge explosion. Both the voidstone and the human have vanished without a trace and are declared dead. Twilight is inconsolable.

In actuality, the human managed to escape with the voidstone, and is using it to free familiars (mostly other ponies, I think) from their bonds, and in some cases kidnapping the familiars.

Twilight gets news of familiars being un-bonded and/or going missing and eventually manages to track the human down to a community of freed familiars. He reveal that during the ritual he could feel the spell trying to change him, erasing his thoughts of home and adjusting his thinking to something like, "this really isn't so bad." The familiars that he "kidnapped" were only the ones that were treated poorly and didn't want to return to their masters.

That's about all I've got. I don't have the writing skills to make this a full-fledged story (I seem to be limited to comedy stories unless I want to feel like I'm pulling teeth writing the story), but if anybody wants to try writing it themselves you have my blessing. Just message me when you post the story so I can see what you came up with.
