Spoilers for this issue of Friends Forever obviously.
The moment I saw the denizens of Dragon Town, I headcanoned it as the origin of Spike's egg. It's an easier and more plausible place for a pony to obtain an egg from dragons than the alternative of stealing it from a wild nomadic dragon, moral problems being an even greater obstacle. I would go further and suggest this was a case of him being put up for adoption and the potential specifics and details could spawn a wave of fanfics. I could fill this post with just the ideas off the top of my head. Maybe I should write one of those fics myself.
The other half of the implications is what the in-story (Watsonian) explanation is for this community's existence not being brought up or even considered possible in Dragon Quest or any other time in Spike's life. Which ponies knew and which didn't? Did Luna let something slip out that was being kept from Spike by revealing Dragon Town to him? How would Twilight have reacted to this revelation? If anypony in the Twilight family knew, were they worried he might leave them to live among his own kind? If he went there instead of the badlands, how would he have found the will to return to Ponyville? Like I said, plenty of fanfic fuel.
