Points at her dramatically.
"Twilight Sparkle, princess of magic, I refuse to acknowledge you as the master of magic! I, Markus the Magician, herby challenge you to a duel to see who is the true ruler of magic!"
"...and if I win, you'll come back?"
"If those are your terms, then yes."
"And your terms?"
"If I win... I'm to burn all of my research and kill myself."
"What!?"
"Twilight... this world is not meant for me. It's people fear me as a demon--"
"Then we can show them--!"
"YOU ARE AS BLIND AS YOU ARE SMART, TWILIGHT SPARKLE!"
"..."
"...do you still accept my duel?"
"...yes, I do. I'll defeat you and knock some sense into that thick skull of yours!"
"Defeat? You'd best do better than that, my love... because I'm going to kill you."
"...L-love?"
The duel begins.
A quote from the end of a story idea that I had in mind. Tell me if you'd like to see something like this. Of course... there will be more content and it will be polished. 
So he is going to kill her…because he loves her? and just decided to throw that into the window before the duel?
3077593 I dunno. This was an old idea I had in mind for a story.
The premise of the story was something along the lines of good guy gains power, ponies (mostly nobles) start to fear him, they turn twilight against him, he runs away and trains, he comes back as a bad ass. He was supposed to be really serious about magic and power.
I might start working on this when I get the stories that I'm currently working on done.

sounds good oh and hey let me know if you take ideas, I had this sad story of a human that is to shy toward princess Luna that he keeps quiet until Tirek appear, so he rig the floor beneath the royal sister with explosive trap himself with Tirek and with magic wings he trick Twilight into give him duel with Tirek until Tirek beat him and leave him almost death, then he toss the human in front of the princesses and mock him saying that he was a stupid delusional man for even think a goddess will reciprocated his feelings
