First thought on One Piece · 6:40pm Feb 13th, 2015
I finally started watching this, heard about how good it is and it's so far very good. I'm starting the Arlong Park arc so I'm still very early in the series. I heard it's almost 700 episodes long and counting so I have a lot of story to go through. I'll go through my current thoughts with minor spoils.
The story is when the pirate king, Gold Rodger was executed, pirates from all over set sail to find his treasure called One Piece, which is somewhere on the Grand Line. Whoever finds the treasure becomes the pirate king and a boy called Monkey D. Luffy wants to become that king. As simple this is I heard it gets deeper when we get to the whys. It also takes place in a world where you're constantly going to new places.
The action can be a bit slow but when it gets going, the action can be pretty impressive. When someone gets his head smashed or stabbed in the chest, it looks like it hurts. The characters so far are also enjoyable, like Luffy who's a kind hearted goof who leaves destruction in his wake, Zoro the swordsman who could kill people in his sleep,Usopp who's a good shot and a coward, Sanji who likes Rarity only he cooks and kicks people, and Nami who I think I'll learn about soon.
I also want to comment on the Devil Fruit. There are these fruits that can give people powers like Luffy's rubber powers for an example. As powerful s these are they have a critical weakness for a setting like this. They lose the ability to swim. I like this as it gives you a creative way to give characters powers and gives them all the same but still deadly weakness in a setting filled with sea battles and pirates.
So yes I'm enjoying One Piece and it could become one of my favorite anime ever.
