Contest project, day seven: Back to square one. (S.O.S / Mayday) · 2:46am Feb 8th, 2015

Aaaaaandm I'm out of ideas. Apparently I'm not made to work under prompts.

Really, I've been reading everything on eyesight, sleep a couple of hours, watched TV, hit the random button on every wiki ever made. Hell! I even got to meditate till Poe's ghost came to me and smacked my head for doing that and not writing. Naturally, nothing of that helped.

So, since I can't come up with a plot around the "it's impossible" prompt, I'll do everything else. So, here are the setting and character without a plot.

Setting

I'm thinking about a big city, something like a capital. I like the idea of a half-steampunk half-magitec, with things like magic moving a car but also computers calculating spells.
In terms of politics, I'm thinking something between democracy and diarchy. Like the Princesses still being at the top, but with also a parliament elected by the people (ponies).
A society that isn't too much into group mindset, maybe a little too indifferent. Something in the lines of "don't start nothing, won't be nothing" attitude.
Oh, a definitely a city of adventure. So much that citizens can easily see a guy dressed in red and blue fighting a radioactive guy with a skull for head and simply say "already seen, now what's in the tv?" Something between Metropolis and Gotham.
Between seasons 3 and 4, maybe before MMC. I'm not against Princess Twilight, but I'm definitely more positive at the setting before it.

Protagonists

Trixie Silverlight Lulamoon:
I just love the character. Her multiple interpretations on the fandom and even dual personality in the canon of the show give her a lot of potential.
I like the idea of an anti-hero in the vein of wanting to be the good one in the picture, but also being too cynical to be considered a nice one. In other words, jerk with a heart of gold and good is not nice in full potential (Red Hood post New 52).
She's clever, very clever. She could outsmart Poe's and Doyle's best characters if she wanted to, but she's also a little lazy, so she prefers her shows instead of working hard. Responsibility is something to be avoided at any costs (The Riddler).
A loner, not because she wants to, but because she doesn't know how to not be one. Being an orphan made her want to compensate by gaining the love of the masses, but her own fears prevents her to get any closer, acting like a jerk to keep them in line. She wants love, but she's not very good at returning it in healthy ways (Green Arrow pre New 52).

Pinkie Pie/Pinkamena Diane Pie:
You know something about characters that externalize the duality of thought? I love them.
I have in mind a relationship like the one from Batman: Ego. They both acknowledge and respect each other space, but they also identify themselves as part of the same pony. In other words, they're impulse and restrain. Without each other, Pinkie would provably be a dadaist lunatic unable to concentrate on anything, while Pinkamena wouldn't even bother to get out of bed (Jekyll/Hyde).
They both are extremely curious, to the point of chewing an electrical wire just to know how it feels to be electrocuted. Also very creative, having a special drive for inventions. They find a special joy in the act of creating something, be it a new cupcake recipe or a new internal combustion engine (Michelangelo for Pinkie, da Vinci for Pinkamena)
Pinkie:
She has the philosophy that the world has always a good side, and she finds a delight in showing that to everyone else. Preferring to stay optimistic over adversity, Pinkie strongly believes that everything can always be fixed and everyone deserves to be happy... with parties if possible (Plastic Man).
Pinkamena:
In contrast with Pinkie, she doesn't even care about idealism. Instead, she prefers to see the world under a more objective point of view, always analyzing everything on eyesight to it's minimal components. A little unaware of the world around her, if she could fabricate a doomsday device without even noticing the implications of it (young version of Professor Farnsworth).

Sonata Dusk: For some reason that completely eludes me, I really want to characterize her in a story.
Provably a happy go lucky gal, who actually enjoys being evil. Although she's unable to come up with anything really harmful, believing that taking two free samples instead of one is the maximum evil (Megamind... without the mind).
Extremely agile and quite brilliant given the circumstances, she could cross a room full of obstacles without breaking sweat. Also unfocused, so she provably would stop at the middle of any task if there's anything interesting on TV, or anything actually (the missing lovechild of Michelangelo with Harley Quinn).
Definitely a follower, not a leader. She finds more joy being useful for others rather than telling them what to do. This, combined with her aspirations to be a bad girl, makes her the perfect minion. Or would if she wasn't easily distracted by anything that moves... or shines... or exists... sometimes not even that (Homer Simpson).
She loves her companions Aria and Adagio, to the point of seeing them as sisters and promising to never let them alone, to their dismay. They too care about her, but would provably jump off a cliff before admitting it (they're the Drake for Sonata's Josh).

Well, that's it. I got the set, the characters. What am I missing?...

Oh, rrriiiiight, I have no plot.

Brainstorming please?

It seems what you need is a major conflict. I'll give you some suggestions. Maybe a Prince and the Pauper story with Pinkie getting bored as being treated politely and not having any fun while Trixie is all alone in the world and wants friends.Pinkie(being Pinkie) sees Trixie sad and wants to help out. Then she comes up with a fantastic idea. Stand-up comedy. Thus the entertainer and the party animal switch places. Sonata meanwhile seems to notice the change and is the suspicious one and tries to expose Trixie. I may be cheating but really who gives a "flying feather". Basically when I run out of ideas, I do an adaption of someone else's with my own twist, like in my Smash Bros fic. Throw some action in there like a war going on. Maybe that's why Pinkie is bored and all the political stuff is boring. Maybe a side-conflict like Sonata being a new royal advisor for the princesses from another nation and coming the this new Equestrian city as a spy. She is slowly losing her power and needs to find a fourth stone inside the city for her Siren buddies.

So...if you end up not using this...can I use it?

....hey wait a sec OBJECTION! If this is between seasons 3 and 4....where does Sonata fit in?

(I am going to keep editing this comment for more ideas for you so keep in touch!)

Pinkamena would probably be when Pinkie is bored when politics and when she trades places with my wai-I MEAN Trixie, she would go back to normal.

I know you have a thing for robots so maybe the war can be set in the "not too distant future" where ponies have developed "Pacific Rim" style machines to fight.

I'd like to make a offer. In case this isn't enough... would you like to collab on my story for the contest? You don't have to if you don't want to. Just a offer. I will give you credit.

If you need a setting for these three mares...

Las Pegasus, party capital of Equestria. That's the one place they could all get together in a conceivable way. Parties, magic tricks, shiny objects...all in one place!

Dude, it's YOUR idea, if anything I should be asking you that.

I said I wanted to do something with her, not that it has to make sense. Maybe an AU where the sirens stayed in Equestria?

I do like mechas, but I'm able to write something without them. It's just that the "it's impossible" thing is so common on the genre that my inner fanboy immediately jumped at it.

Quoting the Joker from The Killing Joke, "No, I'm sorry, but... No. it's too late for that. Far too late."
What I'm trying to say here is that, although I would like to cooperate with you in a future project, this contest means a test for me, a test that I have to face on my own. Help is one thing, but at the end it has to be me who wrote the story. Sorry.

Great, now I only need a plot for this.

2779333
Well, semantically speaking I have the setting. But if you're talking about a plot I'm all ears.

Hmm, yeah. Las Vegas is practically a place where anything, any thing, can happen. Now, in a magical counterpart, it can only be turned up to eleven.

2780318 Understood. Looking forward to a future project. Speaking of future...I have to get to work on that time travel fic!

You need a plot? Hmm...

Yeah, I'm stumped with those characters. I like the Equestria Girls angle, because that means you can end up with TWO Pinkie Pies and TWO Trixie Lulamoons. The hilarity that could ensue would be nigh unstoppable.

In fact, here's the plot:

Principal Celestia vs. Team Trixie Pie.

FIGHT!

Well, I already have a first vignette and a scene. If you have time, could you look at it, it's on the last blogpost.
