Besides the rampant homophobia in both Mystquestria and his posts, he's also thrown several different editing teams under the bus for his own image's sake when various drafts weren't received well (this didn't even work) and brought his bigotry to bear against his last team because almost all of them were gay or bi.
Not to mention certain timing and identity and honesty issues.
Skepticism warranted.

Everything can look bad when seen in a different light. Look at Hitler! He was actually a decent person, under all the hailing. Did you know he took great care of a dog? Probably not, but there's always those info-savvy people. Anyway, some people could look at what he did as him just being determined. And the honesty thing. Not everybody feels safe on the internet. He has his reasons for hiding things from his readers. Whether they're warranted, or not. Anyway, you can look at the situation in your own way and form your own opinions, and we'll make our own.

I like not being lied to. And I dislike bigots. I don't care if they have a dog and family - for most of them, the extent of their involvement in my life is hurting many of my friends.
He is personally responsible for hurting two of my friends (and at least one of theirs) who were his editors.
White-knighting for Hitler doesn't make Hitler less of a genocidal, megalomaniacal egomaniac (I'm quite aware that he wanted to paint and had a family and the like), and similarly, you can't change my opinion of Dolphadel's actions and character with mere words. Nor can you erase what he's done. I'm honestly not certain he wants white knights trying to hand-wave his past, and anyway, this isn't between you and me any further than our differing experiences with him. Don't bother trying to invalidate my personal experience and I'll avoid doing the same for yours.

Deliberately hurting people is not okay. Your white-knighting is just getting more and more hollow. And when someone is responsible for hurt, the response in civil society is not "yeah, people hurt each other, that's a shame isn't it?", it's "I'm sorry and I shouldn't have done that." Because people generally have control over what they do.
Trying to dismiss real hurt with that kind of mealy-mouthed bullshit is not an apology.
