Rule of... well, me, because I formulated it myself and still can't find any proof that anybody else did before me: To find the meaning of a piece, present it to an imbecile who knows only what the words mean, who cannot construct a greater meaning than that if he tried. That is its truth. Beyond that, beyond what is clearly written into the text, all meaning is fictional, outside of the

    First time now for weeks.
    Perhaps to help my pain,

I know why she is really here. Kitty heart pills have the side effect of making them quite active and clingy, followed by long nap. Screw poetry. It is a waste of time when you could be writing an actual story.

You'd think that would hurt afterwards. Or be felt in any way. Odd.

    Just noticed

Future historians will take Ruby Pinch in SatN as a symbol for the inevitable approach of motherhood and how the thought is growing inside her, won't they.

    Well, poop.

so cute motherhood group can't even

Because why not age regression, right?

I swear the mothers get more hilarious every day.

Also note the uncredited artist "Lyra Senpai." Definitely a name you want to be seen when people look at your resumé.

Wet work - The principle of the Magic Flow explained · 12:18am Jun 30th, 2012

Having read Splitting aMid the Night, as you obviously have, because you would otherwise never have found this blog post, you should have seen how I introduced the idea of the Magic Flow. To start out, let me summarise what it is, then I'll say what it isn't and how I got to it, before finishing out with a bit of theorising (aka why Midnight has access to the Flow).

The Flow is:

The idea behind the Magic Flow is that there is some kind of parallel dimension, from which all magic draws its energy. The Flow is referred to multiple times as 'The real world, as it actually is' with some minor alterations in SatN, which suggests that it's not actually a parallel dimension, but instead the world as it is seen when the illusion of matter is transcended. That means that everything is made of waves, clusters of energy, staying in one place just long enough to make up an object, waiting to be interfered with.

As a side effect, those clusters also have distinct colors stolen from Assassin's Creed Eagle Eye, which allows the pony dipping into the Flow to identify friend and foe. But, as it is the real world, everypony is constantly also within the Flow, although some are connected to it better or worse. As they are harnessing its powers directly, unicorns are strongly connected to the Flow simply existing, followed by other living beings, which are still part of the Magic Flow, and the land itself.

It's not technically confirmed as 'canon' on my part, but Midnight thinks that everypony is the Flow reincarnating itself... into itself. As such, it'd be possible for anypony of any race to strengthen their connection to the Flow and take advantage of that. Refer to Perception (and hinted in To Jack a Rainbow) for that, which shows that Rainbow Dash is capable of using the most basic of Flow skills, Pegasus Eye, to her advantage. Through immense focus, Midnight herself can come closer to the Flow in order to enhance her magic in times of need... or stalk Twilight Sparkle.

The Flow is not:

Idk lol. I guess you could say that it is not an excuse for plotholes, and I'd agree. In the regard of being relevant to the plot, the Flow is kind of like God, in that he does not interfere except where he is direly needed and called for by those who know him. (Disclaimer: The author of this blog post is currently agnostic and will follow this belief until science proves him otherwise.)
Neither is the Flow an universal tool with which Midnight can fix anything. Whereas Twilight has the gift of Clairvoyance, Midnight is able to see the present world as it really is.

How I got to the idea of the Flow:

I kind of felt like I had to justify Pegasus Eye somehow. For details on the Magic Flow, refer to Carl Sagan's Cosmos and replace 'Cosmos' with 'Flow' in your head. Also, if you think that cosmology is B.S. and Carl is a high dude just talking fantasy stuff, I will hunt you down and punch you in the face.

In all of the science, look for a balance between data and Theory:

It feels ironic to do that about my own works, as all that I think up is automatically 'canon' the moment I decide it is. But nevermind. There is actually some neat stuff between Midnight and the Magic Flow.
To start off, earlier designs of Midnight showed her reaching emotional numbness, resistance to pain, et cetera through heavy mind discipline. Focus your mind and the body will follow. Small secret: That's learnable. Empty and focus your mind and the pain will leave before it has entered. Handy.
However, I quickly realised that Noon is unavoidable. For the Magic Flow, she's actually really relevant. Think about it like this: As she is technically not bound to the mortal shell Midnight is, despite being a part of her, Noon has free reign within Midnight's mind. So what if the trigger to find the Flow was actually within you, but you couldn't see it because you were unable to look for it? That's a problem the personal demon solves.

Once she has found a pathway to the Flow, Midnight is able to empty her mind to a degree where she can ascend into the Flow as if she had died, leaving her body behind. This is the extended Pegasus Eye, as she calls it. Ironically, dead ponies also ascend to the Flow, although there may be something beyond that.

That being said, it's not impossible that the Flow is just a product of Midnight's insane imagination.
