What are unicorn Horns made of? · 5:24pm Dec 29th, 2014
What the heck are unicorn horns made of? Are they just hard cartilage or bone? Or a weird growth only unicorns develop? Unicorns can obviously feel things from it, there have been plenty of examples in the show where they feel pain from it, so there are nerves in there. But they've always been shown to be sturdy and hard, so they're not flesh and blood. They could be bone, but what bone is the same color as your fur and sticks out of your head seamlessly? It's a weird thought, but it's been bugging me for a while now.
Cartilage or bone would both work. Assume a softer inner core laced with nerves, it's not so much that they FEEL with it, as the contact produces vibrations that travel inwards. And for any more holes, throw in magic, cuz you ain't gotta explain jack.
Either that or a VERY dense tissue closely resembling wood, could happen, just not very likely. See magic excuse.
