Blog Story! (Just in time for Christmas!) · 7:53am Dec 10th, 2014
I'm going to try a little something as we move further into the holiday season- starting tomorrow, I'm going to begin posting small sections of a piece from my headcanon's Pegasus mythology library (now that's a mouthful). This will be revealed as a telling from Nimbus to Whirlwind, two of my characters. Without further ado, let's get into this!
Hearing approaching hoofsteps, Whirlwind slunk down beneath his blankets, drawing them over his head.
"Whirlwind?"
Whirlwind clapped a hoof over his mouth to avoid giggling. Nimbus had apparently taken on the task of tucking him in tonight. He could have a bit of fun, then.
"Whirly, you in there?" a hoof pressed down on the blanket the little colt was huddling under.
"Kraken attack!" Whirlwind squeaked, jumping up from the bed in an explosion of pillows and sheets. Nimbus feigned fright, retreating to the back of Whirlwind's bedroom as the little pony bent over, laughing.
"You do that sort of thing to Mom and Dad, too?" Nimbus inquired, approaching his brother and taking a seat on the bottom bunk of his bed. Whirlwind frowned.
"Nope. I don't think Mom would like that very much."
"Well, I won't tell her you ambushed me," Nimbus said, hefting an old, green book onto the bed and nosing through the pages.
"What's that?"
Nimbus selected the page he wanted and set the book on his lap. "A story- and a good one for Hearth's Warming Eve, if you want to hear it."
"Oh," Whirwind frowned, "the Hearth's Warming Eve tale again?"
Looking up at his brother, Nimbus shook his head. "Hey, that's our heritage. Might seem boring now, but that stuff will mean a lot to you one day. But no- this took place not long after that fateful eve- back in a time when we ponies lived much closer to nature."
"Hmm, okay. But if it's boring..."
Nimbus smiled. "It's got Windigos in it."
It was all the colt needed. "Go for it!"
"Very well..." Nimbus looked down at the book again, "our story tonight is called..."
