I don't ever want our culture to accept MLP. And here's why. · 4:55pm Nov 3rd, 2014

I know that seems like a harsh statement, but hear me out:
Super heroes and comic books used to be nerdy pursuits, but now they are culturally acceptable. Now, it's not considered different or odd to enjoy them, as a kid or an adult. Animated TV shows made their stories accessible, and eventually huge, blockbuster movies made people care.
The same has happened to some degree with Star Wars and Star Trek. In a nutshell, our uncle's nerdy hobbies are no longer so.

I was struck by this epiphany last night as I was leaving church, I saw a friend of mine from my local hobby tabletop games store post on Facebook, complaining about how he can't stand how surrounded he is by pony content and bronies. Says he finds us creepy. I, once again, told him to calm down, and, I don't know, try what we're doing?
But a moment later, it hit me: The only way we will survive as a community is if we're always viewed that way.
At the risk of sounding like a hipster, I can see that, if we become too mainstream, everyone will think it's cool and the sense that we're making some kind of difference will be lost. I guess the question can be posed as this: What happens once we've made our difference? What if, one day, MLP no longer has the social stigma it currently has?

So, let the haters hate! Continue to act like dorks and obsess! If we don't, this, one of the few remaining bastions of originality and a place that we can feel different but accepted, (a feeling I quite enjoy) will be lost to popular opinion!

Geek out and freak out, my friends. Our goal as bronies should not be to be accepted by culture. I didn't want to in the first place.
