Persona 4 Arena Ultimax Pre-Review · 9:36pm Sep 30th, 2014
These are just my first impressions, not the whole review I promised. Story mode will take some time.
-Rise is awesome! Uses her microphone and unique Persona tracking and stunning abilities. I've been messing around with her and found a fun combo. Haven't had much of a chance to play with the other new characters yet, but I assume they all have their own fun, interesting fighting style.
-Well balanced and an improvement over the first.
-Story is a mix of visual novel, anime cutscenes, and fights. It all works well, so far. Very intriguing from the very start.
-Golden Arena mode is a fun mode where you can go through a 'dungeon' which consists of 50 fights on specific modes and gain XP for your fighter and gain new abilities to help in the harder fights. It' nice to see an RPG-esque mode in a fighting game originally based on an RPG.
-Arcade Mode- The usual 8 fight tier based stuff, but it's fun to see what you unlock and train a little.
-Lesson Mode and Adaptability- Lesson Mode is a nice way to learn the basics and the game itself is worked so fighters old and new can pick up and play. I like and respect that. The easier to play the more people will and the more the merrier in my fighting game book.
So, based on my first three or so hours with it, I love this game. It's a fun, no-holds-barred fighting masterpiece. Great job to Atlus on this one. I highly recommend to any fighting game, anime, or Persona fan. It's a blast. Full review will be up when I complete story, play some online, and mess around more with some characters. But for now it's a 10 in my book.
