The noise was a good sound to Leader of Miners Bergg. The steady fall of pickaxes cracking through the thick rock to extract the gems, the working of his arm of the Greater Pack moving and doing their jobs, earning their pay at the end of the week, it was a song to him that was as sweet as mother's milk to a newborn puppy. He hummed in satisfaction, even while currently embroiled with his current problem. The two Diamond Dogs before him were of better breeding, having significant All-Pack Leaders in their lines, and both were now about to come to blows. They wanted resolution, and Bergg was determined to make the two young ones see reason. But already, negotiations were soured and going more and more south as the moments passed in Begg's small work-hollow.
"He always used weighted bones, Miner-Leader! Always tricking others out of pay, ask anydog here! That is his way!" The gray one, Urthun spat, ending his sentence in a snarl that made the other, the brown Aerolf, growl menacingly, slaver dripping from fangs as the bout of anger continued, before answering in a savage bark, "You call me a liar, a bone-cheater and everything except a well-whelped pup! Such arrogance from one who is as flea-bitten and tick-blighted as yourself, Urthun!" The two dogs advanced before Bergg smacked his anvil with a great hammer he kept always in his belt; part weapon, part work tool. The thing had a massive black steel head, with a squared look to it, and both dogs took in the weapon that had caved in numerous Quarray Eel heads, and tempered many new bits of jewelry. "ENOUGH!" the dominant dog barked, rising from his stool behind to anvil to stalk up to both dogs, as they respectfully showed their necks, even while still shooting venomous glares at one another. He popped his massive right paw after placing the hammer back in his work-belt, before saying in his halting baritone rumble, "I cannot have two dogs with such anger in their hearts for one another working for the good wages of miners and putting our good titles and honor to the mud with their bickering and whimpering like two stupid children arguing. You will resolve this among yourselves, honorably in ten minutes. A Trial will be decided by Pack-Leader Teft or by Greki, you will both be in the dungeons for ten weeks on starvation rations."
Both dogs quivered.
