Bat-ponies in An Equestrian Odyssey · 4:51am Sep 16th, 2014
Ok, so I like bat-ponies, but I don't like them not having a proper name. Apparently people have a problem with moori, and using thestrals just seems wrong (also I don't like Harry Potter.) To solve this problem since I decided that the bat-ponies who live within the Impirium of Midnight are displaced remnants of the original Impirium (the one from before the rulers before the Emperor.) I decided to give them a name derived from Galician as Gaul was one of the first countries Rome conquered and I based the Impirium on Rome. Using the Galician phrase for "Children of the Night" (cliche, I know) I chopped of a few syllables to get a short word made from the phrase ending up with "nendaite". This sounds like a species/culture name to me and it's derived from a phrase which can be taken to mean something dark, mysterious, or playful.
Galician is close to Spanish in terms of how it sounds when spoken and as near as I can tell the word nendaite would be pronounced "neh-nn-die-t". I hope this jives with everyone. The last thing I want to do is bother people.
