New Story: Gazebo · 5:09pm Aug 10th, 2014

Dear Readers,

Wow, it's been a loooooong time since I've written anything outside of the Kilala-verse. Feels weird. Like eating boba without the drink to go with them.

Anyway, new story time!

Yep! No cover image this time! It's odd, I know, but it's not like not having a cover page means that nobody's gonna read the story! Heh heh... Yeah...

This is actually an entry for a summer fanfiction contest over on Equestria Daily. There's a group for it here on FimFiction, too. To all readers, I say: go check out the entries they've got posted up in the group. Some of them are really good, and a few have even made it into the Featured Box here on the site. To all writers, I say: go write an entry for the readers to check out! The prompt is simple enough:

Write a story about ponies... from a non-pony's point of view.

If you think you're up for it, go tell a story! Submissions are accepted until the end of the 15th of August. And, once you do that, tell me about your entries! I'd love to read them!

Okay, that's enough pandering for one blog entry that's not pandering-related. Go read!

Hey, friend, I've looked your fic over and if it's okay, I have a bit of a question, concerning your portrayal of changelings in your stories in general. I just thought it'd be best suited here than on the story comments.

I'm a bit curious as to how exactly the changelings in your stories, here in 'Gazebo' and 'To Love Being Loved' work, rather, just for it be clarified, if that's okay. From what I've read, can I assume it's somewhat a hybrid between the popular 'Hive' and 'Changeling Kingdom' headcanons? So does this mean that changelings in your stories, who Chrysalis describes as 100% individuals, have their own families and children?

I like to think so, yes. I haven't read either of those stories you've mentioned, though, so I hope I don't sound like I'm ripping them off when I write my stories.

2363223 Oh no, my friend, don't worry, those aren't the names of fanfics. Rather, they're just ways to describe the most frequently used and popular headcanons for changelings: that being (1) the changeling acting like eusocial insects who are subject entirely to a hive mind and are all the biological children, and (2) a dark, pony-like kingdom of 100% individuals with their own families and social and political structures you'd find in Equestria and the human world.

I'm more inclined to the latter, which I've utilized in my stories Citizen Weevil (which is funnily enough, another story about changelings emigrating to Equestria) and Maternal Instinct (which is about Chrysalis and her daughter) This preferences is mainly due to how the Hive fanon has been pretty overdone and I'm not a fan of changelings being Chrysalis' children, which is one of the main biological connotations of a Hive structure, though I have sometimes seen it be called a 'Hive' in a looser sense, which I guess it what you've done in your stories.

I think I may actually leave a comment expressing my thoughts on Gazebo.
