Critique · 12:27pm Jul 31st, 2014

I used to dislike critique.

...not any longer. I get it now.

Those who refuse to allow any kind of real critique on their work, who block it off or hide them? They're being really cowardly. I can't believe people would refuse to even take any kind of genuine criticism about their art when one posts it in public.

Look. All you people who block comments and critique. Do you think you'll only ever receive praise? You're not creating in a vacuum. If you put work out for the public to see, you have to allow people to criticize it if they so wish. That's how free speech works. If only positive reviews were allowed, there'd be no consumer protection and nobody would ever know if a movie or game or product was bad or had issues until it was too late and they'd already bought it. Critique is a necessary part of our culture. And you're gonna hide it just because you don't LIKE it?

That's reeeeeaaal mature, there. Real. Mature.

I've gotten critique too. Unless it was "Durr, you're gay, huh huh" and stuff like that, I don't hide it. I try to talk to the people who criticize if to see what they were expecting or want. And if they have real advice, I take it.

Not everyone apparently agrees. Which is...unfortunate.

It could be because I'm kind of a canon-protector. I care a lot about the source material something comes from and I try to make sure both I and others stay true to it. But I've seen so many divas who block any kind of criticism of their work. It's disgraceful. That's not how life works.
