Potential story ideas: The Queen in Pink · 5:08pm Jul 16th, 2014
A thought for a future story (or if somepony is interested in the concept and can get to it first, feel free!):
Several moons before the failed invasion of Canterlot by the changelings, an unexpected event happened within the Hive: A female changeling was hatched. Like bees, the changelings normally only bred a female when the Hive was looking to split, or when the current queen was near death. But for some reason, this female hatchling occurred without prompting.
Chrysalis viewed the foal as a potential challenge to her authority, and wanted to have her killed; however, ancient changeling law states that all changleings must protect a female with their lives. Murder of a female - even by the Queen - was an act punishable by death.
Over the next year, the new hatchling grew into a lovable foal; she had a sweet and playful attitude that was almost alien to the hive. Chrysalis became more and more worried that Pinkie's nature would lead to a revolt against her. With her somewhat-twisted mind, Chrysalis reviewed the law and saw what she believed might be a loophole: The law specified that the punishment only be levied in cases of intentional murder, or unintended death within the hive. And so she called to her one of her soldiers and ordered him to take the foal out into the wastelands, and there abandon her.
However, the soldier - loyal first and foremost to the Hive - took pity on the hatchling and could not abandon her to die. Instead, he convinced her to take the form of a normal pony -a pink mare - and then worked a mind magic on her to erase her memories of the hive. The soldier left her unconscious on the edge of a remote rock farm, where she was found by the Pie family, who took her in and raised her as their own...
